History, colour, sound and soul. Fascinating trip. - An early start, but worth it to get time at the temples before they close at 12. Avoiding the cows on the motorway, we drove through the outskirts of Chennai and through padi fields and palm trees to reach Kanchipuram, the town of a thousand temples. We stopped for coffee which was good. Hareesh, our guide, was full of information about the history of the town, it's prominence as a pilgrimage location within India and about the three main temples we visited. His English was excellent, and we learnt more about the Hindu faith and rituals, and made offerings ourselves with his guidance . Of particular interest was the 3500 year old mango tree which defies biologists and produces four different fruits! He took some lovely photos of us in the way, and we also visited a centre to see silk weaving and a family silk business. A great trip, made better by a super guide and driver (who guided us safely through some "interesting" traffic).

Fabulous trip - This was a fabulous tour. I was picked up at my hotel in an air conditioned car. We saw multiple temples and the 5 Senses guide was great. He explained the history of these temples from 600AD and a little background to better understand. Before leaving we stopped for lunch. I would highly recommend this trip.

Temples and silk in Kanchipuram - Ganesh was an excellent guide and made sure that I had a really enjoyable trip to Kanchipuram. He gave lots of information and also allowed me to wander off and take photos, and even added in a visit to a traditional house to the itinerary which I appreciated a lot. Really great tour of two beautiful temples and a silk manufacturer. Driver was very competent and lunch was delicious.

Great day in Kanchipuram - Extremely interesting tour with Nivi. The 2 Hindu Temples we saw were very different from each other and both were very beautiful. Nivi was full of information about the history of the temples and made sure we got good photos. Also really enjoyed the silk shop where you can see weaving being performed and buy a keepsake. Prices were very reasonable and they had many beautiful options. We did not feel pressured to buy anything. The Tali South Indian (other restaurants available if you don’t want Indian food) lunch was a very good way to top off a great day. Nivi also explained what we were served and the best way to enjoy our food.

A deep and profound experience! - This was my third tour with Five Senses and our guide Kannan. If you want to see the sites with someone who knows the locations intimately well and truly cares to share with you the details that make Chennai special, this is the tour guide you want! For a westerner that is unfamiliar with eastern religions it is truly a blessing to have a guide that takes their time to make the temples and their rituals so accessible and relatable. You will walk away from your tour feeling enriched by this truly profound and unique experience and gain a new appreciation for the wonderful people you are surrounded by. Thank you for yet another amazing day Five Senses and Kannan - I can’t wait for my next Chennai trip!

For anyone wanting to explore the 2 archaeological towns in a safe environment and convenience. - We did a one day tour visiting kanchipuram in the morning and mammalapuram in the afternoon. The guide Harish picked us up at our hotel ahead in time to clarify the needs and provided personal support for the customers. Harish is passionate about explaining the meaning and offered us the background/crash course of the religious practices before taking us to the temple. He adapted the visit to suit our requests and needs, taking us to the oldest temple with archaeological and architectural importance. For the mammalapuram visit, a separate local guide certified by the archaeological survey of india was engaged. Due to this, we had an ease of navigation and organisation of entries without wasting time on the ticket counters for entry into the monuments. The guide was very knowledgeable, spotting precisely the details and techniques used, alongside excellent storytelling of the depictions. Overall, the trip organisation was very good for anyone who would like to explore these two cities in a safe, guided environment.
