Kashgar Live Stock Market - The Kashgar Livestock Market is an open-field agricultural market held only on Sundays. If it is Sunday, you can visit this market; otherwise, it will not be available. It features a very local atmosphere with Uyghur farmers and business centered around animals like sheep, yaks, goats, donkeys, cows, camels, and horses. The South and Central Asia Market is a regular commodity market with a variety of goods. This market attracts over a hundred thousand people every Sunday from nearby towns around Kashgar and from Central Asian countries. Our guide will accompany you for a few hours at the market.
Abakh Hoja Tomb - This mausoleum is one of the finest examples of Uyghur architecture in China. It features a large 17-meter dome at the center, surrounded by four corner minarets with striped and arabesque floral patterns. Initially built in 1640, it houses the remains of five generations of the powerful religious and political leader Apak Hoja’s family.
Idkah Mosque - As the largest mosque in China and the 12th largest in the world, Idkah Mosque is a uniquely well-preserved Uyghur architectural site that can accommodate thousands of worshipers during prayer times.
Kashgar Old Town - This well-preserved Uyghur residential area is over 1,000 years old. People began settling here 1,100 years ago, and it was a cultural and important transportation hub on Central Asia’s Silk Road. It is a treasure of the Silk Road. Due to its unique medieval style, the old town attracted Hollywood’s attention for filming “Kite Runner,” with most parts of the film shot in this area.
Kashgar - Kashgar Old Town is one of the must-see attractions in Kashgar. A walking tour through the old streets, with their centuries-old tea houses, offers a great experience in this ancient Silk Road city.

Kashgar - Shipton’s Arch day tour
Shipton’s Arch - Today, we will drive one hour to the Shipton’s Arch attraction. We will need 3-4 hours to hike up to the arch and back to the car. Shipton’s Arch is approximately 70 km (44 miles) from Kashgar and takes a couple of hours by car and a couple of hours on foot to reach. Named after Eric Shipton, the British consul in Kashgar in the 1940s, who visited the arch in 1947 and wrote about it in his book, “Mountains of Tartary,” Shipton’s Arch is often considered the highest natural stone arch in the world, though its exact height depends on how it’s measured. For many years, Shipton’s Arch was forgotten by the outside world until it was brought back to attention in May 2000 by a National Geographic expedition. The height of Shipton’s Arch from the south side is 460 meters (1,500 feet – roughly the height of the Empire State Building), and the top spans a total of 55 meters (180 feet).
