VR experience is a must. excursion from cruise ship terminal - Coming off the cruise ship, it can be confusing what to do and see. There is a hop-on/hop-off bus, but it does not go to Olympia. You have to take a bus there. This tour does provide the basic transportation and the tickets that you need to get into Olympia and its museum. It would have been nice if the guide on the bus had given a bit of history about Olympia, but I guess her role was only to make sure you got the tickets and point out the direction and meeting point. Olympia is where they held the original Olympics, and it is also where the temple of Zeus is now in ruins. The original 7 wonders included the statue of Zeus, which was located here till it was relocated and then eventually destroyed in wars. VR audio guide gave just the right amount of information about life in Olympia. The VR video is loaded to your phone, and as you walk around the complex, it activates various audio clips. You point the phone around. It shows what Olympia was like in 200 BC. You no longer need the bulky virtual boxes to see through. We did see some people using them, but I prefer the phone version. Make sure you have a phone that works internationally. Other notes: the tours from the cruise ship provided a guide inside the museum. We only received the tickets to get inside. I guess we could have bought an audio guide but we explored and read on our own. The museum houses all the original fragile statues, building engravings, etc., like the Hermes of Praxiteles, Victory(Nike), and temple building facades. Afterward, we headed to the outdoor area to see the original city in ruins. The VR made the day by recreating what Olympia would look like in all its glory. The Audio Guide was really informative and was the star of this experience. Without it, we would not have been able to appreciate any of the ruins. Final suggestions to improve the experience: 1. The "guide" on the bus could have given a history lesson about the city and ancient Olympia. 2. Reverse the order by first seeing the outdoor city ruins and then the indoor museum. The relics inside would have more meaning. Overall, we were all very glad we elected the VR option; otherwise, we would not have known anything about Olympia.

The Olympics began here - Seeing the site of where the Olympics had its start was memorable. And the museum also brought it to life.

Dedicated organizer and great virtual tour - The tour operator was very helpful and committed to preparing the transfer to Olympia, including the virtual tour. We also really liked the virtual tour, as it shows virtually and very excitingly what the sights in Olympia looked like at that time (or could have looked like). For us, it was definitely more exciting than some tour guides. 👌

Fun to visit - We had a wonderful visit to Olympia, the driver and the guide took us straight there and we were able to tour without any complications. They were very helpful and I would recommend this tour for people who like to do it on their own.

Great! - The transport from the port was perfect. The timing to be on the bus and back at Port worked out great. The site itself was an amazing experience, but the VR portion was a bit of a disappointment. It worked sometimes, but you had to be standing in a specific spot to set off the audio and visuals for a specific area.

A Walking Lover’s Dream - Interesting excavations. The museum was good. My Fitbit counted 10,000 steps from my cruise ship to the meeting spot then to the bus, and the tour, and back to the ship. Not for folks with mobility problems.

Olympia - Olympia was amazing but the trip was let down by the difficulties using the VR Audio which also lacked any real information. We were not advised that you needed a phone for the VR audio so we had to share a phone.

Nice wondering around the site. - The driver and tour guide were good, however the digital App is not suitable for people who are not conversant with basic digital technologies. App is not intuitive and frankly frustrating to use. The correlation of the physical assets is poor. Preferred that a numbering system on the site itself may work better.

Go for a guided tour - Great day, beautiful sights, and transportation to and from the port was efficient. However, The VR app is too tricky to use for folks that aren't tech savvy. No explanation given on how to use app, and no prior warning given that everyone needs to bring a cell phone. Well, I did get an email an hour before the tour, but that is not sufficient. In addition, the app contains only very superficial information. I guided tour would be a better bet.

Rip Off take the bus yourself - All this is a bus ride and prepaid tickets to the Olympia Archeological site. There is a hop-on hop-off bus for 10 euros with 5 stops or buy a bus ticket for 10 euros. The entrance ticket to the site is 12 euros. The VR thing is an app anybody can download. There was no value added by the tour company that would justify the $49 price for what cost really $25.
