Great choice - Exactly what we were looking for~ bus ride to and from the cruise port~ with advance tickets to both the Museum and Ancient Olympia (unguided). We spent about one hour in the museum and then walked the Site for about two hours~ we did read about both before hand and had a book giving descriptions of each area if you wanted specific information.

VR experience is a must. excursion from cruise ship terminal - Coming off the cruise ship, it can be confusing what to do and see. There is a hop-on/hop-off bus, but it does not go to Olympia. You have to take a bus there. This tour does provide the basic transportation and the tickets that you need to get into Olympia and its museum. It would have been nice if the guide on the bus had given a bit of history about Olympia, but I guess her role was only to make sure you got the tickets and point out the direction and meeting point. Olympia is where they held the original Olympics, and it is also where the temple of Zeus is now in ruins. The original 7 wonders included the statue of Zeus, which was located here till it was relocated and then eventually destroyed in wars. VR audio guide gave just the right amount of information about life in Olympia. The VR video is loaded to your phone, and as you walk around the complex, it activates various audio clips. You point the phone around. It shows what Olympia was like in 200 BC. You no longer need the bulky virtual boxes to see through. We did see some people using them, but I prefer the phone version. Make sure you have a phone that works internationally. Other notes: the tours from the cruise ship provided a guide inside the museum. We only received the tickets to get inside. I guess we could have bought an audio guide but we explored and read on our own. The museum houses all the original fragile statues, building engravings, etc., like the Hermes of Praxiteles, Victory(Nike), and temple building facades. Afterward, we headed to the outdoor area to see the original city in ruins. The VR made the day by recreating what Olympia would look like in all its glory. The Audio Guide was really informative and was the star of this experience. Without it, we would not have been able to appreciate any of the ruins. Final suggestions to improve the experience: 1. The "guide" on the bus could have given a history lesson about the city and ancient Olympia. 2. Reverse the order by first seeing the outdoor city ruins and then the indoor museum. The relics inside would have more meaning. Overall, we were all very glad we elected the VR option; otherwise, we would not have known anything about Olympia.

The Olympics began here - Seeing the site of where the Olympics had its start was memorable. And the museum also brought it to life.

Gets you to Ancient Olympia and pointed in right direction. - Very well organized getting us loaded on bus, sharing interesting information on the bus ride and pointing everyone in the right directions once we arrived at Olympia. The rest was self guided and we enjoyed at our leisure. The VR portion is on your own device. They do not supply headsets so bring your own. The VR was kinda confusing but also interesting once you get it sorted. I used it - my husband skipped it after trying it out but not thinking it was very useful. Might be worth hiring a guided tour depending how immersive of an experience you want. We enjoyed self guided, reading signage in museum and Ancient Olympia.

Fun to visit - We had a wonderful visit to Olympia, the driver and the guide took us straight there and we were able to tour without any complications. They were very helpful and I would recommend this tour for people who like to do it on their own.

Great! - The transport from the port was perfect. The timing to be on the bus and back at Port worked out great. The site itself was an amazing experience, but the VR portion was a bit of a disappointment. It worked sometimes, but you had to be standing in a specific spot to set off the audio and visuals for a specific area.

A worthwhile transfer service. - The transfer service and the transfer guide were good. However, a word of caution concerning the VR guide. It's basically an app that the transfer guide downloads on your phone, and the app does not work well if you don't have data on your phone

There are probably better options - We met up with this tour from a cruise ship. The app for the tour was awful and added nothing to the experience. The museum was great, but there was not enough time allotted to fully see it.

Good - Great tour guides. But, Audio at Olympia was hard to use. You must have international cell service. No buildings to see.

Olympia Grounds and Museum - The Olympic ruins were extremely interesting to see and experience. The history was fascinating. The amount of archaeological discoveries and artifacts that were exhibited on the grounds were remarkable. And the signage displayed explained everything very clearly. We enjoyed our visit to the grounds and the museum. We were disappointed that the app provided didn’t work out very well and that the tour provider wasn’t available for assistance on the grounds. Otherwise this would be a 5 star tour.
