Amazing company and experience! - My trek to EBC/Chola Pass/Gokyo was as amazing as it was because of Nepal Alternative Treks! From the start Tej sent me a WhatsApp message to ensure everything was taken care of before my arrival to Kathmandu. Once I arrived he met me for tea and to go over what the next 2 weeks would look like. As a solo female traveler I felt extremely safe and well taken care of for the entire 15 days. My guide, Ritika, was the absolute best. It was so awesome to see a female guide in such a male dominated industry. She was incredibly kind, funny and friendly and had so many friends on the mountains! Once I returned I again met with Tej to talk about the amazing journey and offer any feedback. I would definitely look to book with them again on any future trekking and recommend them to anyone looking to do some trekking in Nepal!

A Slick Production - Tej provided a slick production from top to bottom. He took care of every detail which allowed for twelve days of jaw-dropping and worry-free trekking. I would like to give a special shout out to our guide Nauser who took such good care of us on the trail with a sunny, easy-going manner that makes him part companion, part comedian, part hospitality manager. I will never trek in Nepal with anyone else. I feel a close affinity with him. Our porters were Sudeep, Santos, and my favorite person in Nepal, German. They do what I could never do: haul the weight of my pack at twice the speed in half the time with high-spirited energy. Because of them, I was always comfortable and had warm clothes to change into once I arrived at the tea house. My one suggestion might be to bring a hand scale for luggage to be sure your pack meets the 10kg limit for the airline. Tej also prefers this limit for the comfort and safety of his porters which shows his care for his employees. As I said, I would never consider using another outfitter for a Nepal trek. We are already talking about our next excursion on the trail. But what could ever beat the scenery of Everest region?

Seamless experience of EBC enabled by Nepal Alternative Treks Expeditions (NATE) - Last year we travelled to Kathmandu for the ABC trek and that was our first meeting with Mr Tej Bahadur Gurung and his team from Nepal Alternative Treks Expeditions (NATE). We planned for the EBC trek this year and NATE was our first choice. The planning for the trek was done considering the group dynamics and the acclimatization needs. Our group had an age range of 12 to 63years. Mr Gurung's team ensured that we all make it to EBC. It was a successful trip for us. As a family we extended our stay to visit Muktinath in Lower Mustang. The trip was planned very well, and we were transported back in time with his choice of places that we visited. Marpha valley took us back in time by centuries and the stay was in one of the old houses converted into a guest house. Paradise guest house was a wonderfully comfortable stay. The next day we went to the Dhumba Lake, a holy lake for the monastery in the region and then it was time for us to time travel again some 8 centuries back in time to visit the only Bon Village... Lubra Village. It was a pleasure to visit the monastery which is run by one family per month. We went to Muktinath from there and went back to Pokhara the next day. A special shoutout to the car owner cum driver Shri Narayan Thapa for managing to drive through the terrain where there were either no roads or roads were under construction and of course our guide Yugal Tamang a young guy who was trying to communicate with us in Hindi to up his Hindi communication skills Overall, an excellent and refreshing trip after the grueling EBC trek. Thank you Mr Gurung and Nepal Alternative Treks Expeditions (NATE) for the excellent arrangements and being always available over the phone. You are our go to person for any Nepal visit.

Trip of a lifetime to Everest Base Camp - This spring break, my family and I had an ambitious plan to trek to Everest Base Camp. While I saw the most stunning views I’ve seen in my life, it was also a whirlwind of endless trudging, complaining, and (sometimes) altitude sickness. But, with frequent minor alterations to our original plan, we slowly but surely walked the entire route to Everest Base Camp, taking a total of 8 days, walking around 6-8 hours every day. Trekking in the mountains itself was beautiful — strenuous at times, but scenic, nonetheless. We would wake up, eat a rushed breakfast, and get started. With frequent photo stops for my mother, and a lunch break halfway through, we stayed energized — for the most part at least — and excited throughout the day. While trekking, we saw breathtaking views of forests, waterfalls, and the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayan Mountain range. As we gradually climbed up the mountain, we saw several mountains — such as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Lobuche — from many different angles. We were surrounded by huge peaks on all sides, no matter where we walked. After each exhausting day of trekking, we would stay in small teahouses scattered at each destination for every day. Every evening, a warm cozy fire was lit and everyone in the common room would gather around it to avoid the bitter cold outside. This allowed us to meet many new people and make new friends in the most unexpected situations. The day we reached Everest Base Camp was exciting but bittersweet. We were glad we had been able to climb to such a high altitude. But, we were sad that our journey was coming to an end. Everest Base Camp is situated on a glacier itself. It was a massive expanse of white that never seemed to end, speckled with yellow tents. While I was apprehensive about this journey at first, it turned out to be my favourite ‘vacation’ of all! While it wasn’t your typical lounging-at-the-beach relaxing vacation, my family saw endless beautiful sights that no camera could ever capture the extent of, and we made some memories none of us can ever forget! I want to thank the fantastic team at Nepal Alternative Treks that supported us through this wonderful experience. Arushi Mishra ( Grade 9)
