Pokhara, a beautiful valley on the banks of Phewa Lake, is renowned for its stunning views of Annapurna and Machapuchare (fish tail shape) to the north, Dhaulagiri to the west, and Lamjung Himal and Manaslu to the east. It is smaller and less hectic than Kathmandu, making it an ideal starting point for our trek.
Drive to Nayapul (1,010 m) and Trek to Tikhedunga (1,570 m) - 4 hours
Tikhedhunga - The trek begins at Nayapul after a one-hour drive from Pokhara in a private vehicle. A brief 15-minute walk along the Modi Khola leads to Birethanti (1,015 m), a large village with numerous shops and teahouses. The trail continues through the village, following the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola, and climbs steadily up the valley side to Hille at 1,495 m. A short climb brings us to Tikhedhunga at 1,570 m. Today’s walk is relatively short and easy, serving as an introduction to trekking in the Annapurna region.
Trek to Ghorepani (2,840 m) - 5 hours
Ghorepani - The journey continues with a steep ascent to Ulleri, a large Magar village at 2,070 m. From here, the trail ascends more gently through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests to Banthanti at 2,250 m, and then to Nangethanti at 2,460 m. After an hour’s walk, we reach Ghorepani (2,840 m).
Hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m) and Trek to Tadapani (2,610 m) - 7 hours
Poon Hill - Early in the morning, we embark on a one-hour hike to Poon Hill at 3,210 m, offering a spectacular mountain range view and an unobstructed sunrise over the high Himalayas. After spending about an hour there, we return to Ghorepani for a hot breakfast. We then climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2,960 m), descend to Banthanti, and proceed to Tadapani.
Trek to Chomrong (2,140 m) - 5 hours
Chhomrong - The day begins with a steep descent through rhododendron forests. Leaving Tadapani, we descend through the forests, and the trail becomes easier as we reach Gurjung, a Gurung village. From here, it is an easy walk to Chomrong at 2,140 m.
Trek to Himalaya Hotel (2,950 m) - 6 hours
Dovan - The trail descends to the Chomrong Khola and then climbs to Khuldighar at 2,380 m, where there used to be an ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area) check post. The route then descends steeply down a rock bank, levels out, and runs through bamboo thickets at the bottom of the gorge, staying on the west side of the river. We walk through bamboo and rhododendron forests to the Himalayan Hotel.
Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) - 7 hours
Annapurna Region - The trail climbs past the Hinko Cave, Deurali, and then Machapuchare Base Camp, which is not a true base camp as climbing Mt Machapuchare is prohibited. This area, surrounded by mountains, is known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. A two-hour trek from Machapuchare Base Camp leads to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at 4,130 m, offering spectacular mountain views.
Trek to Bamboo (2,345 m) - 6 hours
