Trek to Pisang
Trek to Mangng via Ghyaru
Manang - Today, you will commence trekking towards the upper region of the Manang District. As you progress, you will observe a gradual shift in the landscape and vegetation, with the upper region of the Manang District presenting a more picturesque and verdant terrain. Once you pass through Pisang village, you will have the option of taking alternate trails. To the left of the Marshyangdi River lies lower Pisang, while upper Pisang is located on the right side. Both routes become increasingly challenging at Mungi, and eventually lead to a hidden village called Baraka, located near Manang. Here, you will spend a couple of nights and soak in the local culture and traditions.
Acclimatization day in Manang
Manang - After a hearty breakfast, today’s trek will take you on a steep climb towards Gangapurna Viewpoint (3800 m). To avoid mountain sickness and acclimatize to the altitude, you will make stops at Yak Kharka, ThorongPhedi, and Thorang pass (5416 m) before returning to the hotel for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, you will visit the Himalayan Rescue Association hall at 3 pm, where you will receive information on high altitude sickness and learn how to prepare for the Thorang Pass Trek. After the session, you will return to the lodge and spend the night.
Trek to Yak Kharka
Yak Kharka - After a refreshing night’s sleep and breakfast, today’s trek will take you from Yakkharka to Thorong Phedi. The trail leads you through a high altitude area, so it’s essential to take it slow and steady. You will walk on the grassy path along with the stunning views of the Himalayas. You will pass by the tea houses and small settlements, where you can rest and recharge. After 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach Thorong Phedi (4450 m), Thorong La Pass’s base camp. Here, you can relax and have lunch. If you feel energetic, you can take a short hike to the High Camp to acclimatize yourself for the next day’s pass-crossing. The overnight stay will be at Thorong Phedi.
Trek to Thorong Phedi (4650m) or High Camp (4800)
Thorong La Pass - Note: While taking a Jeep might save time, it’s important to note that trekking to ThorongPhedi and High Camp is a great way to acclimatize to the high altitude and prepare your body for crossing the Thorong La Pass. Skipping this part of the trek may increase the risk of altitude sickness and make the pass crossing more challenging.
Once you arrive at ThorongPhedi, you will have some time to rest and relax. It is important to stay hydrated and take it easy at this high altitude to avoid altitude sickness. The lodge at ThorongPhedi is basic but comfortable, with hot food and drinks available. You may also want to do some light exercises to keep your body active and prepare for the next day’s trek. If you decide to continue to High Camp, you will have a shorter and easier trek to the pass the next day. However, keep in mind that the altitude at High Camp is even higher, so it’s important to listen to your body and take necessary precautions to avoid altitude sickness.
High camp to Muktinath via Thorang pass (5416m)
Thorong La Pass - Located at an altitude of 5416 meters, Thorang La Pass is undoubtedly one of the most challenging treks in the world. The trek on this day is both demanding and rewarding as it takes you to the summit of this magnificent mountain pass. Therefore, it is essential to start early, at around 3:30 AM if you overnighted at ThorongPhedi on Day 9, or 5 AM if you stayed at High Camp. The early start helps you avoid the strong winds that start blowing from 11 AM onwards, and allows you to complete the trek in 3-4 hours.
The steep climb up to Thorang La Pass provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including majestic photo opportunities on both sides. The top is decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags, and trekkers often take a photo with the signboard indicating Thorong La (5416 m) in the background. However, spending too much time on the top is not recommended due to the risk of altitude sickness.
Muktinath - After enjoying the stunning views, you will start your descent towards Muktinath (1616 m), a famous shrine revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The descent takes approximately 4-5 hours, and you will pass through the charming village of Ranipauwa and its famous Jwala Mai Temple, which has a natural gas flame that never extinguishes.
Finally, you will arrive at the peaceful and spiritual village of Muktinath, where you can rest and rejuvenate your body after a challenging day. Overnight accommodation will be provided at a comfortable lodge.
Jeep driving to Tatopani (1100 m)
Tatopani Hot Spring - Following your breakfast, you will embark on a jeep ride to Tatopani, passing by Jomsom, Kalopani, and Ghasa. Tatopani, which literally translates to “hot water,” boasts a remarkable natural hot spring, where you can unwind and relax in warm water, perhaps accompanied by a bottle of beer to ease your fatigue. Tatopani is situated at an altitude of 1100 m, providing a noticeable drop from the high elevations of the past few days. You will spend the night at a lodge in Tatopani.
Trek all the way to Ghorepani (2800m)
Ghorepani - On this day, you will embark on a challenging trek that requires an early start to avoid the hot weather in the afternoon. Along the way, you will be treated to stunning views of lush green mountains and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Laliguras, the national flower of Nepal, can be seen in abundance during this course. After walking for 8 to 9 hours, you will reach Ghorepani, which is situated in close proximity to Pokhara. From Ghorepani, you will have the opportunity to see panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.

Poon Hill - After enjoying the panoramic views from Ghorepani, many travelers opt to wake up early in the morning around 4:30 to take advantage of the darkness and hike up to Poon Hill. This is a popular destination for tourists as it offers a spectacular panoramic view of the sunrise over the Himalayas. To make this hike, it is recommended that you bring water, a flashlight, and a camera.
The hike to Poon Hill takes approximately one hour and goes through the beautiful rhododendron forest. When you reach the top, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sunrise over the mountains. Many people climb the viewpoint ladder to take photos and relax their eyes before descending back down to the Lodge for breakfast.
Pokhara - After breakfast, you will descend down to Tikhedhunga where you will catch a jeep for Pokhara (Lake Side). In Pokhara, there are many star-level tourist hotels and restaurants that offer a variety of Nepali, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and continental food. You can also enjoy picturesque views of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and Phewa Lake.
