Since its first sighting through mountain surveyors’ telescopes, Mt. Everest has been beckoning adventurers and mountaineers. The pathways ascending through the foothills of the world’s tallest peak continue to deliver some of the most demanding treks in Nepal. The Solukhumbu district is well-equipped for trekkers, boasting well-kept paths and ample lodging options. However, the trekking routes start and remain at higher altitudes, gracing the peaks of some of the most renowned mountains in the Himalayas.
The majority of trekkers commence their journey in Lukla, making their way steeply through the Khumbu mountains towards the Everest base camp or the holy lakes at Gokyo. Yet, hiking in via the paths from Shivalaya (located near Jiri) or Tumlingtar (near Hile) will improve your acclimatization to the altitude. As many treks exceed 4500 M, Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) poses a significant threat in this area. Therefore, it’s crucial to ascend at a slow pace and adhere to the suggested rest periods.
- Everest base camp is suitable for all kind of people who are moderately fit, not any previous adventures experience is required. Some physical fitness activities such as running, swimming and walking are also recommended before your Everest base camp trekking. Persons suffering from a Pre-existing medical flaws must seek medical advice before considering the trek.
