Fly to Lukla (2860 meters) and start trek to Phakding (2610 meters)
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters)
Irish Pub - After breakfast, we start with a gentle walk to Monjo, another beautiful Sherpa settlement on the trek. Here, you’ll officially enter the Sagarmatha National Park and need to show your permits (SNP entry permit and TIMS card) at the office in Monjo. The walk to Namche Bazaar involves a challenging uphill climb of about 590m, taking approximately 5 hours. However, halfway up the hill, you’ll get your first views of Everest and Lhotse. As you approach Namche Bazaar, you’ll see the peaks of Thamserku (6,648m) and Kwangde (6,224m) to the East, and the sacred mountain Khumbila (5,707m) to the West.
As the gateway to the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar, at an altitude of 3440 meters, is famous for its many bakeries and local market (haat bazaar) held each Saturday. Built on a steep mountain bowl with excellent views of the high Himalayas on either side, the town has restaurants, shops, banks, and currency exchange facilities. Remarkably, for such a remote location, there are also cyber cafes and pool halls available.
Acclimatisation at Namche Bazaar
Irish Pub - It’s important to walk to higher altitudes during your two-day stay in Namche Bazaar. You have options to trek to Khumjung, where you can visit the local school and hospital, or to Thame village, home to Sherpa Everest expediters and the great Everest Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. Alternatively, you can trek to the airstrip at Shyanboche (3720m). Above the airstrip is the Everest View Hotel, established by the Japanese to bring affluent tourists into the region for a prime view of Everest. However, the hotel’s altitude of nearly 4000m caused many visitors to suffer from altitude sickness.
Trek to Tyangboche (3870 meters)
Trek to Dingboche (4410 meters)
Dingboche - Chhukhung Path 7 - Your journey will pass through wooded forests and along the Imja Khola valley. The views will become more impressive as the high Himalayas begin to surround you. You’ll gradually contour to Pangboche, an interesting gompa site above the main village. This is the oldest monastery in the region, dating back to the introduction of Buddhism to Khumbu. You’ll then climb up to Dingboche at 4360 meters. The views of Amadablam and Island Peak are breathtaking.
Acclimatisation at Dingboche
Dingboche - Chhukhung Path 7 - Today, we have another day for acclimatization. You can head to another beautiful part of the Khumbu region, Chhukung, which offers a magnificent view of Mt. Makalu, Island Peak, Peak 38, etc. Alternatively, you can hike to Nangkartshang Peak.
Trek to Lobuche (4950 meters)
Lobuche - The valley becomes barren as you walk up towards Lobuche, but your attention will be firmly on the snow-capped peaks soaring above you. The path joins the trail below Thugla and offers beautiful views of Cholatse (6442m) across the valley. The path can become quite rocky in places, so it’s important to watch your step. After another steep ascent, Tawache and Nuptse are particularly spectacular from Lobuche, towering almost 2 kilometers directly overhead.
Trek to Everest Base Camp (5360 meters) and back to Gorakhshep (5160 meters)
Everest Camp II - Today, the walk towards Everest is along the Khumbu Glacier. You’ll reach the small village of Gorakhshep, where you can have lunch. After lunch, the trail will lead you to the Mt. Everest base camp at an altitude of 5400 meters. Everest base camp offers an unforgettable view of Khubutse, Mt. Pumori, Changtse, and the Khumbu icefall, instead of Mt. Everest.
Trek to Kalapaththar (5545 meters) and trek down to Pheriche (4371 meters)
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters)
Irish Pub - You’ll now retrace your steps back to Lukla. The walk to Tengboche via Pangboche offers spectacular views of Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, and other Himalayas. You’ll travel through the rhododendron forest, across the Imja Khola, and pass several monasteries along the way.
Trekking down the hills, you’ll reach Phungi Tenga and follow the path across the Dudh Koshi river, walking along the pine forest. You’ll reach Sansa and then Kyanhjuma, finally ending the day at Namche Bazaar.
