Fly to Lukla (2860 meters) and start trek to Phakding (2610 meters)
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters)
Irish Pub - After breakfast, the trek begins with a gentle walk to Monjo, a picturesque Sherpa village. Here, you will officially enter the Sagarmatha National Park and present your permits (SNP entry permit and TIMS card) at the Monjo office. The trek to Namche Bazaar includes a challenging uphill climb of about 590 meters, taking around 5 hours. Midway, you will catch your first glimpse of Everest and Lhotse. As you near Namche Bazaar, the peaks of Thamserku (6,648m) and Kwangde (6,224m) are visible to the East, while the sacred mountain Khumbila (5,707m) is to the West.
As the gateway to the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar, at 3440 meters, is renowned for its bakeries and local market (haat bazaar) held every Saturday. Nestled in a steep mountain bowl with stunning views of the Himalayas, the town offers restaurants, shops, banks, and currency exchange. Surprisingly, even in this remote location, there are cyber cafes and pool halls available.
Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar
Irish Pub - It is crucial to explore higher altitudes during your two-day stay in Namche Bazaar. Options include trekking to Khumjung to visit the local school and hospital, or to Thame village, home to Sherpa Everest climbers and the legendary Tenzing Norgay. Alternatively, you can trek to the airstrip at Shyanboche (3720m), where the Everest View Hotel, established by the Japanese, offers a prime view of Everest. However, the hotel’s high altitude of nearly 4000 meters often causes altitude sickness.
Trek to Tyangboche (3870 meters)
Tengboche Monastery - The day starts with a brief climb, followed by a descent to the Dudh Koshi at 3550 meters, before ascending to Tyangboche at 3870 meters. The views of Everest, Thamserku, Amadablam, and the valley are breathtaking. At 3870 meters, Tyangboche is a delightful spot centered around the main Tibetan monastery in the area, where you can listen to monks chanting their mantras. The views of Lhotse, Everest, and Amadablam are unforgettable.
Trek to Dingboche (4410 meters)
Dingboche - Chhukhung Path 7 - The journey continues through wooded forests and along the Imja Khola valley. The scenery becomes increasingly impressive as the high Himalayas surround you. The path gradually leads to Pangboche, home to the region’s oldest monastery, dating back to the introduction of Buddhism in Khumbu. You will then ascend to Dingboche at 4360 meters, with breathtaking views of Amadablam and Island Peak.
Acclimatization at Dingboche
Dingboche - Chhukhung Path 7 - Another day for acclimatization awaits. You can explore another beautiful part of the Khumbu region, Chhukung, offering magnificent views of Mt. Makalu, Island Peak, Peak 38, and more. Alternatively, a hike to Nangkartshang Peak is also an option.
Trek to Lobuche (4950 meters)
Lobuche - As you trek towards Lobuche, the valley becomes barren, but the snow-capped peaks towering above capture your attention. The path joins the trail below Thugla, offering stunning views of Cholatse (6442m) across the valley. The trail can be rocky, so watch your step. After a steep ascent, the views of Tawache and Nuptse from Lobuche are particularly spectacular, towering almost 2 kilometers overhead.
Trek to Everest Base Camp (5360 meters) and back to Gorakhshep (5160 meters)
Everest Camp II - Today’s trek follows the Khumbu Glacier towards Everest. You will reach the small village of Gorakhshep for lunch. Afterward, the trail leads to the Mt. Everest base camp at 5400 meters, offering unforgettable views of Khubutse, Mt. Pumori, Changtse, and the Khumbu icefall, rather than Mt. Everest itself.
Trek to Kalapaththar (5545 meters) and trek down to Pheriche (4371 meters)
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters)
Irish Pub - Retrace your steps back to Lukla. The trek to Tengboche via Pangboche offers spectacular views of Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, and other Himalayas. You will pass through rhododendron forests, cross the Imja Khola, and encounter several monasteries along the way.
Descending the hills, you will reach Phungi Tenga and cross the Dudh Koshi River, walking through pine forests. You will arrive at Sansa, then Kyanhjuma, and finally end the day at Namche Bazaar.
