Look no further than Alpine Ramble for your Nepal hiking trips - I decided to attempt reaching Everest Base Camp in early January solo. I choose Alpine Ramble after doing some research as they were one of the companies with the most and best reviews across different sites on the internet. Even months before starting the trek my experience was positive, communicating with the owner, Dil, via WhatsApp was easy and quick for every question I had. As soon as I landed in Nepal I was taken care of by my guide for the trek, Arpan. I will save you de details about how amazing and beautiful the trek itself is, and despite being cold at altitude, the emptiness of the trails made the experience much more valuable to me. Arpan went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable at all times during the trek, from promptly organizing tea breaks, to meals, to assuring that I had the best and most comfortable accommodation. Our talks while walking spanned from cultural differences, to family, to everyday life and much more, to sum it all up, I could have not asked for a better human being to guide me through my first time hiking in Nepal. With Arpan, Sonam my porter and the whole staff behind Alpine Ramble, I made sure not only to make it safely and comfortably to Base Camp and back, but I did it while having fun, really enjoying resting time and having a flexible day to day schedule that allowed me to stop for some extra photos or to simply enjoy everything that was surrounding me. I will be back to Nepal very soon and I will choose Alpine Ramble for my next adventure in this beautiful country.

Best Guid Company in Nepal!!! - There isn’t enough space here to describe how great Dil (owner), Lexman (guide), Krishna (guide), our three porters, drivers, etc. were during planning, execution and follow to our 14 day Everest Base Camp Trek! During the initial planning for our Himalayan adventure we researched several companies, watched countless YouTube videos and joined multiple FB groups in search of the right guide service for our family of six. After our first conversation with Dil Gurung (owner of Alpine Ramble Treks) we were sold. He immediately made us feel like part of the family with a genuine desire to cater to our needs and a flexibility that created a sense of a truly curated, individualized experience rather than a cookie cutter “tour”. (An important thing to mention, any trek at high altitude in the Himalayas (particularly in winter) isn’t a tour. It is a physically, mentally and physiologically demanding 140km (80mile)+ trek with over 3,000m elevation gain at negative degree temperature. While this part of Nepal is made up of many decades/centuries old small villages, it is one of the most inaccessible areas regardless of how populated it may be. If something unexpected occurs, one still needs to be prepared to walk out or at least make it to a helicopter accessible spot. At the highest altitude locations (Gorek Shep, EBC) helicopters can only transport two people due to lack of oxygen.) From the moment we were met at the airport in Kathmandu by our primary guide Lexman, we knew we were in good hands. My wife, four children (15, 16, 19, 19) and myself were welcomed with open arms, a broad smile and led to a comfortable van for our 25 minute transport to the Thamel Park Hotel. Lexman had us settled in to our rooms after our 36 hours of travel from the US and scheduled a personalized briefing for the following day. The next morning Dil and Lexman presented a detailed description of our trek and answered all of our last minute questions. We were happily surprised to find out that Dil added an additional assistant guide for our family. We were only expecting one guide and three porters. This turned out to be great addition and one that Dil clearly knew would be important for our comfort and safety. A real testament to Dil’s commitment to his clients. The following morning we were once again met by our guide, Lexman for our flight to Lukla to begin our “walk”. After an exciting flight in the 16 seat, twin engine plane, we met our porters and assistant guide Krishna over tea and a light breakfast before setting out. Without going into detail about the stunning natural beauty of the high himalaya, the mountain communities or yaks, we were immediately struck by the professionalism of our team. Everything from breakfast/lunch/dinner requests to extra blankets to detailed descriptions of the surrounding mountains were expertly handled by our new Nepali family. It also became immediately apparent that Dil’s decision to add Krishna to our team was well thought out. From the start, our group split into two based on our three sons’ speed versus my wife, daughter and my pace. Our guides split time taking the lead with our speedier cohort and it made the entire experience even more enjoyable getting to know both men so well. Fast forward to Dingboche and our ascent passed 4000m. This is where Lexman’s 20+ years of experience as a guide really became important from a safety perspective and why choosing Alpine Ramble really proved to be the only choice you should make when deciding on a guide company for any trek you choose in Nepal. Through constant monitoring of our health, altitude acclimatization and encouragement, each member of our family was taken care of as an individual. We didn’t see the same level of detail with other groups around us. On our approach to Gorek Shep we encountered snow and high winds and decided to postpone our Base Camp leg until the next day. Unfortunately three members of our family (my wife and two of our sons) were hit with severe nausea due to altitude and stayed behind while the remaining three continued on to our final destination. On our return from Base Camp we regrouped and headed as quickly as possible to lower elevation and relief from altitude induced sickness. As we descended, it became increasingly clear that my wife wasn’t improving and it was decided that she needed to be evacuated via helicopter. Once again this showed the difference it makes when choosing Dil’s team at Alpine Ramble. They facilitated the evacuation flawlessly, professionally and compassionately. Dil and Lexamn coordinated with the helicopter pilot and made it a priority to have her transported to Kathmandu for treatment as quickly as humanly possible. During off season helicopters are typically dispatched from Kathmandu rather than the closer airport in Lukla and can take several hours to arrive. Their constant communication cut the normal time in half and sped up treatment exponentially. While the rest of our group continued our trip back to Lukla as fast as we could, Dil made it a priority to personally oversee my wife’s recovery and communicate with our insurance company (recommended by Dil). She made a full recovery and was already waiting on us at our Kathmandu hotel when returned from Lukla. We really can’t thank the team enough for ensuring all of our safety throughout the trek. Post trek Dil and Alpine Ramble came to the rescue one last time. While going through security at the airport, I left my work laptop at the screening checkpoint and didn’t realize it until we arrived in Delhi for our return layover to the U.S. After trying in vain to contact the airport, I reached out to Dil and he handled everything while we were in transit. From gathering all of the necessary paperwork to actually picking up my computer and sending back to my home. Once again, I cannot thank he and his team enough. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, there really isn’t enough room here to fully describe how great the Alpine Ramble team is the only company you need to consider for your Nepal adventure. Everyone we interacted with made us feel like family and made what would have already been an epic adventure for our family regardless of who we choose to guide us even more unforgettable. We will definitely come back to Nepal in the future and there’s no question that we will be calling our new friend and family member Dil and Alpine Ramble Trekking!!!!

Incredible - Ñ Our trek to Everest Base Camp with Alpine Ramble was absolutely incredible and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From start to finish, the team went above and beyond to ensure our journey was smooth, enjoyable, and safe. A special shoutout to our guide, Dawa, who was nothing short of amazing—an absolute legend! His knowledge, positivity, and leadership were unmatched, and he truly made the trek unforgettable. Dil and the rest of the team were equally incredible, showing exceptional flexibility and care throughout the trip. When Lucy became really unwell, the team handled the situation with professionalism and empathy, organising a helicopter evacuation to get her safely down the mountain. We couldn’t recommend Alpine Ramble more. They took incredible care of us and ensured this adventure was not just memorable but also deeply meaningful. Thank you, Dawa, Dil, and the entire team—you made this journey extraordinary, and we will cherish it forever! Lucy and Michael xx

Nice staff provided support, assistance and care during crucial time - Gil Gurung, the managing director of Alpine Ramble, is a good customer service oriented person. Even though he’s super busy with his daily operations, he still met his clients in person. Went through the itinerary & the important info with us. On our last day, he went to the hotel to see us off. He was able to establish a good rapport with us. Our guide Sagar Gurang took good care of us during the whole trip. With his guiding, me & my friend Rick were able to make to the base camp. My husband Alex had high altitude sickness when he reached 4800m. Sagar assigned porter Pelliman to look after him in the tea house. Sagar helped us to liaise with our insurance company, dispatched helicopter service to fly us out to Lukla & Kathmandu for hospitalizations. He arranged someone to assist us in Lukla & kept in touch with us closetwhile he was hiking out with Rick. We felt so supportive. Certainly I would recommend Alpine Ramble to anyone who is looking for a reliable tour operator to the Himalaya mountains.
