Fly to POKHARA (884m/2900ft); Drive to NAYAPUL (1070m/3510ft); Trek to TIKHEDHUNGA (1540m/5053ft)
Pokhara - After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, the journey begins with a 25-minute flight from Kathmandu Airport to Pokhara. In Pokhara, visit the deep, narrow gorge of the roaring Seti River, then drive to Davi’s Falls, Gupteswar Cave, and the Bat Cave. In the evening, relax by Phewa Lake and enjoy a leisurely row on its sparkling waters. After breakfast, drive 41km/25 miles to Nayapul to start the trek. A steep trail from Nayapul leads down to a bridge over a small stream to reach Birethanti, a large and prosperous village. From Birethanti, take the left branch of the trail on the west side of the bridge at the ACAP Check post, where the ACAP permit and TIMS Card are required. Follow the trail through the main streets of Birethanti, winding through bamboo forests and past a large waterfall and swimming hole to reach Sudami, beyond a pasture used by caravans. Climb steadily up the side of the valley to reach Hille, and about 15 minutes above Hille is Tikhedhunga. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trek to GHOREPANI (2750m/9023ft)
Ghorepani - This trek takes 4-6 hours, starting with crossing the Tikhedhunga Khola on a suspension bridge, then descending and crossing the Bhurungdi Khola on a large bridge at 1520m. The trail climbs steeply on a stone staircase with over 3300 steps, continuing to the large Magar village of Ulleri (2080m). Climbing gently through pastures and cultivated fields, the trail leads to deep forests, reaching the hamlet of Banthanti. Crossing magnificent oak and rhododendron forests, the trail passes two sparkling clear streams, a small ridge, and another stream before making the final climb to the Magar village of Nangathanti (2460m). About an hour past this village, reach Ghorepani, where eight different species of Nepal’s national flower, the rhododendron, can be seen on the hillsides below. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trek to POON HILL (3210m/10532ft); Trek to NAYAPUL 3-4 hours; 1000m descent; Drive to POKHARA
Pokhara - After about an hour’s climb in the morning, reach Poon Hill, a viewpoint for the spectacular Himalayan panorama extending from Dhaulagiri to Annapurna to Machhapuchhre, stretching from Dhaulagiri I (8167m) and Tukuche (6920m) to Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and Tarke Kang (7193m). Take the main trail leading south, descending first on a staircase, then traversing high above the river on a stone-paved trail. Cross a stream at Chane (1690m) and continue to Kimche (1640m), following the ridge downhill to join the Modi Khola at Syauli Bazaar (1140m). From here, the walk is flat, following the river valley through a lovely birch forest and rice terraces to reach Birethanti. The hike presents stunning mountain views, alongside delightful villages, primarily homes of the Gurungs & Magars, lush rhododendron forests brimming with avifauna, and deep valleys of the subtropical climate, nestled under the Annapurnas with the majestic Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Peak) as a scenic backdrop.
Significant emphasis of this tour is the ascent of Poon Hill. As the sun ascends, it gently lights up the frosty summits of the Himalayan behemoths, Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna (8,091m) along with a labyrinth of other peaks, slowly unfurling in a manner so surreal that it challenges belief.
