- Himalayan Windows Tours - We begin today’s sightseeing tour with a visit to Swoyambhunath, also known as Monkey Temple. This 2500-year-old site is believed to be the Radiant Lotus of the valley, a mythology that began when Manjushri, the god of wisdom, drained the water. The base of the stupa enshrines the Five Dhyani Buddhas attended by their consorts. The tour then continues to Boudhanath.
The Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in the world and a center of Tibetan Buddhist culture in Nepal. Here, you can explore antique shops offering Buddhist religious items such as Thankas.
After Boudhanath, you will proceed to Pashupatinath Temple, located along the Bagmati River. This sacred Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, attracts thousands of visitors daily, including foreigners. It is also a site for Hindu cremations. During the festival of Shiva Ratri, the temple is crowded with hundreds of thousands of devotees.
In the afternoon, you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur Durbar Square. This includes Hanuman Dhoka, the ancient royal residential quarter, Mahadev and Parvati Temple, Machhender Bahl—a holy place for both Buddhists and Hindus—and the Temple House of Kumari, the Living Goddess. Although some temples were destroyed or impacted by the devastating earthquake in April 2015, the site is still worth visiting. Alternatively, we can visit Patan Durbar Square instead of Kathmandu. After completing the day tour, you will be dropped off at your reserved hotel.
