Drive to Pokhara (800m)
Pokhara - The second day of the Mardi Himal Trekking starts with a 5-6 hour drive to Pokhara by car. We begin our journey after breakfast at the hotel. The route follows the Trishuli River until Mugling, then diverges towards Pokhara along the Prithvi Highway. We arrive in Pokhara in the evening and check into the hotel for the night. If time permits, we’ll explore around the lake.
Drive to Kande, Trek to Pritam Deurali (2100m)
Annapurna Base Camp Trek - Our first day of trekking starts with an hour’s drive from Pokhara to Kande, a small village along the Pokhara-Baglung highway. From Kande, your trek begins. Today’s walk is relatively easy, with small ascents over terraced farms and through Rhododendron forests. Between Kande and Pritam Deurali lies the Australian camp, a fantastic vantage point for the Annapurna massifs. After 4 hours of trekking, you will reach Pritam Deurali for the night. Pritam Deurali is a typical rural village in Nepal with stone-built houses and terraced farms.
Trek to Forest Camp (2600m)
Annapurna Base Camp Trek - Today’s trail is filled with dense forests, mostly evergreen. The area’s vegetation is temperate, with lush jungles everywhere. The path cuts through these deep forests with occasional stopovers. The trail to the forest camp is lined with Rhododendron and Oak jungles. This part of the trek is a paradise for birding enthusiasts, with 488 species of birds, including the colorful Himalayan Monal (Danphe) - the national bird of Nepal, Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant, Cheer Pheasant, Snow Partridge, Kalij Pheasant, and various species of eagles, vultures, and owls. We reach Forest Camp in the evening for a night stopover.
Trek to Low Camp
Mardi Himal - Today’s trail involves a gradual ascent. We move further up from the dense forests. As you approach Low Camp, a whole new landscape unveils. Lush jungles give way to sparsely scattered Maple, Pine, and Hemlock forests. This part of the trek is characterized by temperate vegetation. You will get your first glimpse of the Annapurna massifs as you approach Low Camp.
Trek to High Camp (3550m)
Mardi Himal - The stretch from Low Camp to High Camp is the toughest part of the Mardi Himal trek. We cross the 3000-meter mark today, and the trail narrows. The surrounding geography becomes barren and semi-arid. This stretch has several steep ascents, but the Himalayan views make it worthwhile. You will feel the altitude as you reach High Camp. There are many narrow ridges to walk on. We reach High Camp for a night stopover.
Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m), back to High Camp
Mardi Himal - The final stretch of the Mardi Himal trek begins with an early morning wake-up call. We trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp early in the morning for a sunrise view. It takes 2 hours to reach the viewpoint. The trek is challenging, with rocky sections of the trail being slippery. The path is narrow, and you will walk on rocky ridges. As the elevation exceeds 4000 meters, you will feel the altitude. Upon reaching the base camp, a heavenly environment unveils. The base camp offers an astounding view of the Annapurna massifs. Many say the sunrise view from the base camp is the best they have seen. We stay at the base camp for a while and then descend to High Camp for our stay.
Trek to Sidhing (1945m), Drive back to Pokhara
Pokhara - Our descent from the Mardi Himal trek begins today. We follow the same path we took on the way up. The trek is easy, with the trail descending gradually until Badal Danda. From Badal Danda, our trail diverges towards Sidhing. The path goes through the deep jungles at the foothills of Mt. Macchapuchre. It’s a steep descent with a very slippery trail. We reach Sidhing after 5 hours and board a jeep back to Pokhara.
Drive back to Kathmandu
Kathmandu - After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we board our vehicle to Kathmandu. We take the Prithvi Highway for the return journey. It takes about 7-8 hours to reach Kathmandu. Relax and unwind in the evening in Kathmandu.
