It’s believed that in this very spot, a compassionate prince, known as Mahasattva (sometimes considered a reincarnation of Buddha himself) came upon a severely malnourished tigress and her newborn quintet of cubs. Overwhelmed by sympathy, he made the ultimate sacrifice, offering his own flesh as sustenance. When his brothers later sought to find him, they happened upon only his skeletal remains and hair strands, upon which the famous NAMO BUDDHA stupa was constructed.
