Kathmandu - You will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, which sits at an altitude of 1,400 meters (4,593 feet). Upon landing, a representative will welcome you and assist with your transfer to your hotel. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is bustling with cultural landmarks, historical sites, and vibrant markets. Though you won’t see the Himalayas directly from the airport, if the weather is clear, you might catch glimpses of the snow-capped peaks from certain viewpoints in the city. The rest of the day is at your leisure to relax after your journey or explore the city at your own pace.
Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat. 210 km, 8-9 hours (B)
Jagat - The day begins early with a drive from Kathmandu to Jagat, a journey of approximately 210 kilometers that will take around 8 to 10 hours. Leaving the Kathmandu Valley, you’ll travel through picturesque hilly regions. The route initially follows the Trishuli River and later the Marsyangdi River, offering scenic views of terraced fields, lush forests, and quaint villages along the way. The altitude in Jagat is 1,300 meters (4,265 feet). Depending on the weather, you might see mountains like Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung in the distance.
Drive from Jagat to Manang. 90 km, 6-7 hours
Manang - Continuing from Jagat, the drive to Manang covers about 90 kilometers and takes 6 to 8 hours. The route becomes more rugged as you follow the Marsyangdi River valley, climbing steadily through diverse landscapes. You’ll pass through several traditional villages and verdant forests. Manang, situated at an altitude of 3,540 meters (11,614 feet), offers stunning views of the Annapurna range, including Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Lamjung Himal.
Explore Manang and Ride to Khangsar. 5-6 km 1 hour
Manang - You’ll spend the morning exploring Manang, especially the Gangapurna lake a culturally rich village with Buddhist monasteries, traditional stone houses, and panoramic mountain views. Manang is a great place for acclimatization due to its elevation. In the afternoon, you’ll ride to Khangsar, a small settlement located at 3,730 meters (12,238 feet), about 5 kilometers from Manang. This area provides a closer view of mountains like Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak.
Trek to Tilicho Base Camp. 10-11 km 5-6 hours
Tilicho Lake - From Khangsar, you’ll trek to Tilicho Base Camp, which sits at 4,150 meters (13,615 feet). The trek covers roughly 10 to 12 kilometers and takes about 5 to 6 hours. The trail can be challenging, involving rocky terrain and landslide-prone areas. As you ascend, the views of the surrounding peaks become even more impressive, with Tilicho Peak and other nearby mountains dominating the landscape.
Trek to Tilicho Lake and Return to Khangsar. 7-8 hours
Drive from Khangsar to Jagat. 95 km 7-8 km
Jagat - After your time in Khangsar, you’ll drive back to Jagat, retracing the approximately 95-kilometer route. This journey takes about 7 to 8 hours. As you descend, the landscapes change from high alpine terrains back to lush, green valleys. You’ll have another opportunity to enjoy the views of the Annapurna range and the beautiful scenery of the Marsyangdi River valley.
Drive from Jagat to Kathmandu. 210 km 8-9 hours (D)
Kathmandu - The final leg of the road trip takes you from Jagat back to Kathmandu, covering about 210 kilometers in 8 to 10 hours. The drive back offers a chance to reflect on your adventure while passing through familiar landscapes, transitioning from the serene mountains back to the vibrant city life of Kathmandu. On a clear day, you might glimpse the Himalayas one last time during the journey.
Departure to Airport. (B)
Kathmandu - On your final day, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you might have some time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu. Although you won’t see the Himalayas directly from the airport, the memories of the majestic peaks and stunning landscapes will surely stay with you as you head home.
