- Taima-dera Temple, Sainain - Established in 612 by Imperial Prince Maroko, the brother of the renowned Prince Shotoku, this temple was originally located in a region where villages served as rotating capitals. In 681, Maroko’s grandson relocated the temple to its current site, where it became the principal temple for the now-defunct Hosso sect. The temple’s main deity is Yakushi, the healing Buddha, but its most famous feature is the Taima Mandala, a visual depiction of the Pure Land paradise.
