Anuradhapura / Mihintale / Aukana / Sigiriya

Mihintale - After breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of the ancient city of Anuradhapura, which dates back to the 4th century BC. It served as the capital of Sri Lanka until the early 11th century AD. This sacred city, revered by Buddhists worldwide, is encircled by monasteries spanning over sixteen square miles (40 km²). Anuradhapura is rich in archaeological and historical sites, including Isurumuniya, the island’s first temple, the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree with a history of over 2300 years, Ruwanveliseya, the island’s largest stupa, and Jethawanaramaya and Abhayagiriya, which were once comparable in size to the Great Pyramids of Giza and are now World Heritage Sites. Other notable sites include the Twin Ponds, Thuparamaya, the first stupa in Sri Lanka housing the Buddha’s left collarbone, and the Samadhi Statue in a meditative pose. Afterward, drive to Sigiriya, stopping at Mihinthale and Avkana Temple along the way.

Aukana Rajamaha Viharaya - The Avukana statue is a towering Buddha statue near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. Standing over 40 feet (12 m) tall, it was carved from a large granite rock face in the 5th century. The statue features a variation of the Abhaya mudra, with intricately carved robes. Created during King Dhatusena’s reign, it may have resulted from a competition between a master and a student. The Avukana statue is a prime example of ancient Sri Lankan standing statues and is now a popular tourist attraction.

Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa / Habarana / Sigiriya

Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - After breakfast, climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Sigiriya, also known as Lion’s Rock, is an ancient rock fortress and palace built during King Kassapa I’s reign (AD 477 – 495). It is contemporary with the Ajantha and Ellora Caves paintings in India, featuring highlights such as the Frescoes, Mirror Wall, and Lion’s Paw. It is one of Sri Lanka’s Seven World Heritage Sites.

Polonnaruwa - Travel to Polonnaruwa via Habarana and begin a sightseeing tour of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa (11th Century AD). Explore numerous archaeological and historical sites in the Sacred City, including the Great Statue, Quadrangle, Royal Palace, Gal Viharaya, Kumara and Lotus Ponds, Thiwanka Image House, and more. Also, visit one of the country’s largest water reservoirs, the Parakrama Samudraya, often compared to an ocean.

Minneriya National Park - This visit is optional. Those seeking adventure and a chance to see elephants in the wild can visit Minneriya National Park.

Sigiriya / Dambulla / Matale / Kandy

Golden Temple of Dambulla - After breakfast, depart for Kandy via Dambulla and Matale. First, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 m above the surrounding plains, with over 80 documented caves in the area. Major attractions are spread across five caves, featuring statues and paintings related to Lord Buddha and his life, including 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses.

Ranweli Spice Garden - Continue to Kandy, stopping at a spice garden in Matale. Participate in a guided tour to learn about the cultivation and use of spices in daily life in Sri Lanka.

Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - Relax at the hotel in the evening, and later, enjoy a Cultural Show featuring traditional Kandyan dancers and drummers, including a “Fire Walking” performance.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, or Sri Dalada Maligawa, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, it houses the relic of the Buddha’s tooth.

Kandy / Peradeniya / Nuwara Eliya

Royal Botanical Gardens - After breakfast, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, the largest botanical garden on the island. It is famous for its collection of over 300 varieties of orchids, more than 5000 species of spices, medicinal plants, and palm trees.

Ramboda Waterfall - En route, visit the stunning Ramboda Falls and enjoy a refreshing cup of world-famous “Ceylon tea” at a nearby restaurant. Ramboda Falls is 109 m (358 ft) high, the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, and the 729th highest in the world. It is located in the Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass, formed by Panna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. The falls are situated at an altitude of 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.

Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden - Visit the Damro Tea Factory and Plantation to observe the manufacturing process of the world-renowned “Ceylon Tea” and savor a pure, unblended cup of factory-fresh tea.

Gregory Lake - Lake Gregory, also known as Gregory Reservoir, is located in the heart of the tea country hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Constructed during British Governor Sir William Gregory’s tenure in 1873, the lake and its surroundings form the Gregory Lake Area.

Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya - Victoria Park is a public park in Nuwara Eliya, adjacent to the Nuwara Eliya Post Office in Sri Lanka. Initially, the park served as the research field for Hakgala Botanical Garden. It was officially named in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

Nuwara Eliya Golf Course - The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest golf clubs, established in the late 19th century. Located in the hill station of Nuwara Eliya, it features an 18-hole golf course.

Nuwara Eliya / Ella / Yala

Rawana Falls - After breakfast, head to Yala. Along the way, enjoy the scenic views at Ella Gap and pass by the captivating Ravana Waterfall.

Yala National Park - In the evening, embark on a half-day jeep safari in Yala National Park, the second largest and most visited national park in Sri Lanka. Covering 979 square kilometers, the park is renowned for its diverse wildlife and plays a crucial role in conserving Sri Lankan elephants and aquatic birds.

Yala / Galle / Bentota

Galle Fort - After breakfast, travel to Bentota via Galle. Visit the Galle Fort, initially built by the Portuguese and later modified by the Dutch in the 17th century. Even after 400 years, it remains well-preserved, thanks to restoration efforts by the Sri Lankan Archaeological Department. Inside the fort, housed in a Dutch Colonial building on Church Street, is the Cultural Museum.
