Golden Temple of Dambulla - The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1991) located in central Sri Lanka. It is 148 kilometers (92 miles) east of Colombo and 72 kilometers (45 miles) north of Kandy. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka, with the rock towering 160 meters above the surrounding plains. There are over 80 documented caves in the area, with major attractions spread across five caves containing statues and paintings related to Gautama Buddha and his life. The site features 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses, including Vishnu and Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters (23,000 square feet), depicting scenes such as the temptation by the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon.
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Sigiriya, or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock), is an ancient rock fortress in the northern Matale District near Dambulla in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. The site is of historical and archaeological significance, dominated by a massive rock column nearly 200 meters (660 feet) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle, the Culavamsa, King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) chose this site for his new capital. He built his palace atop the rock and adorned its sides with colorful frescoes. A gateway in the form of a giant lion was constructed on a small plateau halfway up the rock, giving the site its name, Sīhāgiri, or Lion Rock.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, it houses the relic of Buddha’s tooth. The relic has historically played a significant role in local politics, as it is believed that whoever holds the relic governs the country. Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, is a World Heritage Site primarily due to this temple.
Kandyan Cultural Centre - Kandyan dance includes various dance forms native to the Kandy area in Sri Lanka’s central hills region. Today, it has spread to other parts of the country.

Royal Botanical Gardens - Depart in the morning to the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya, near Kandy. The Orchid House boasts over 300 varieties of exquisite orchids, including rare indigenous Foxtail and Vesak orchids, as well as many natural and hybrid species. The Spice Garden offers insights into the trees, plants, and creepers that produce Sri Lanka’s special spices. The Herbarium grows many plants used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.
Ramboda Waterfall - Explore Ramboda Falls, also known as Ramboda Ella or Puna Ella, formed by Puna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. It pairs with Dunsinane Falls, created by Pundalu Oya, another tributary of the Kothmale River, combining at the base to form a Y shape.

Nine Arches Bridge - Visit the Nine Arch Bridge, commissioned by the British in 1921. This bridge is a testament to early 20th-century engineering and architectural brilliance. Located between Ella and Demodara railway stations, walking along the bridge offers views of rolling hills and dense jungle. Known as the ‘Bridge in the Sky,’ it was constructed by connecting two bog mountains during the construction of the Badulla – Colombo railway. The bridge is 300 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 80-100 feet high, making it one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country.

Yala National Park - Embark on an early morning safari in Yala National Park, the most visited and second-largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are open to the public, along with adjoining parks. The blocks have individual names, such as Ruhuna National Park (Block 1) and Kumana National Park or ‘Yala East’ for the adjoining area. Yala hosts a variety of ecosystems, from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetlands. It is one of Sri Lanka’s 70 Important Bird Areas (IBAs), home to 215 bird species, including six endemic species. The park also boasts 44 recorded mammal species and one of the world’s highest leopard densities.
Mirissa - After completing the Yala Safari, visit Mirissa, a small town on Sri Lanka’s south coast in the Matara District of the Southern Province. Located approximately 150 kilometers (93 miles) south of Colombo, Mirissa is at an elevation of 4 meters (13 feet) above sea level. Its beach and nightlife make it a popular tourist destination, and it is also a fishing port and a prime location for whale and dolphin watching.
