Hikkaduwa to Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay - Beautiful Arugam Bay, with its crescent-shaped stretch of soft sand, is renowned for a famous point break that many consider the top surfing spot in the country. It’s a small community, with just a few hundred residents, and everything is located along a single road that runs parallel to the coast. In essence, it embodies the relaxed beach vibe that initially attracted surfers and sun-seekers to Sri Lanka.

This day also includes visits to Kumana National Park and Lahugala National Parks.
Arugam Bay to Pasikudah
Pasikudah Beach - These magnificent adjacent beaches, 34km north of Batticaloa, present a stark and intriguing contrast. At the northern tip of the peninsula on a tightly enclosed bay, the stunning white sands of crescent-shaped Passekudah Beach are being developed into a mini-Cancun, a government-driven ‘Special Economic Zone’ with numerous luxury hotels planned around the bay. In contrast, Kalkudah Beach, 2km east and south along the ocean, is mostly deserted except for the occasional fisherman and his boat. The unappealing town of Valaichchenai, located inland, serves as the anchor for these two areas, with the bus stop and train station near the junction of the A11 and A15 highways.
Pasikudah to Nilaveli
Nilaveli Beach - Nilaveli, the northernmost of the Trinco region’s two beach resort areas, offers a more intimate setting than Uppuveli. Hotels are scattered along small lanes off the coastal highway (B424) – stretching about six kilometers from one end of the village to the other. For those seeking serious beach time, Nilaveli is ideal, with its golden sands and inviting ocean. Offshore, Pigeon Island provides legendary diving and snorkeling opportunities.
Nilaveli to Habarana
Minneriya National Park - After breakfast, depart for Habarana. A wildlife safari can be enjoyed here, offering the chance to witness a large gathering of elephants. Various types of wildlife can also be observed in their natural habitats.
Habarana to Sigiriya
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - After breakfast, head to Sigiriya. In the evening, visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a creation of the great King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is an extraordinarily beautiful site rising 200 meters from the jungle. Climbing it is an exhilarating and wonderful experience. Midway through the ascent, the world-famous frescoes of Sigiriya can be seen, painted in earth pigments on plaster. Extensive gardens and renowned water gardens encircle the base of the rock.
Sigiriya to Dambulla and Kalpitiya
Dambulla Cave Temple - After breakfast, travel to Dambulla. The Dambulla Temple, built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C., is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The complex of five caves, with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings, is the largest area of paintings found in the world. It is the most impressive cave temple in Asia, containing over 150 images of the Buddha. Visitors will be amazed by the “pond on the rock,” filled with fresh water and lotus flowers.
Kalpitiya
Kalpitiya to Negombo
Negombo Beach - After breakfast, depart for Negombo. Negombo is renowned for its fishing industry. The sea and catamarans form the backdrop of Negombo. The fish market in Negombo is arguably the best on the island. The Church of St. Mary’s, featuring stunning ceiling paintings, is iconic in Negombo. The city also boasts some of the finest beaches on Sri Lanka’s west coast, attracting tourists who stop over for a day on their way to or from the airport.
