Duration: 6 hours

Highlights
  • Church of St. Gregory the Theologian - New Karvali, a city that continues the history of the old Cappadocian Karvali (Gelveri), is home to the historic church of Agios Grigorios. During our visit, we will delve into the monastery’s history and have the chance to venerate the holy relic of St. Gregory the Theologian, which was kept in Cappadocia’s Karvali from 390 AD and brought to Greece in 1924 during the population exchange.
  • Monastery Agios Sillas - Our next stop is the Holy Monastery of St. Apostle Silas, a significant religious landmark in the region. Built in 1926 after Kavala’s liberation, the monastery honors Apostle Silas, who, along with Apostle Paul, arrived in Kavala to preach Christianity, marking the first European territory to receive the message.
  • Baptistry of St. Lydia - We then head to the banks of the Zygaktis to visit the baptistery of Lydia, the first woman baptized as a Christian in Europe.
  • Monastery of Panagias Ikosifinissis - The Monastery of Panagia Ikosifoinissa, known for its miraculous icon, is one of Macedonia’s largest pilgrimage sites and the oldest active monastery in Greece and Europe. We will stop to admire the miraculous icon and learn about the ascetic lifestyle.
