Highlights
  • Uganda Equator - Our Guide will point out where the 0 degrees latitude crosses, point out the southern hemisphere and also the northern hemisphere. With the help of the magnetic fields and the water used, he will show you that in the Northern pole, the water will sink out through the hole in the clockwise angle. However, in the southern pole, the water will sink down the hole in a counter-clockwise as caused by the magnetic fields.

The experience is finished off with the water sinking at the 0 degrees latitude straight down, proving that that is the imaginary line that crosses the whole world. This is as simple as it sounds but the experience is in a way mind blowing as you see with proving how the water is sucked down in all different directions.

Additional Information

Uganda holds the distinction of being one of the few countries that the Equator, the imaginary line cutting the earth into two halves, crosses through. This widely-recognized landmark draws visitors from all across the globe, who come for the experiences it offers, including the sensation of reduced weight and the opportunity to straddle both of the earth’s hemispheres.

Weight reduction!!

Indeed, it is a fact that when standing on the equatorial line, you are approximately 3% lighter. The reason behind this intriguing phenomenon is the gravitational force acting on mass, which results in weight. On the equator, everyone’s weight drops by 0.5%, as gravity is 0.5% less potent there. This slight difference can be attributed to the earth’s imperfect sphericity—it bulges at the equator and flattens at the poles. As a result, when you stand on the equator, you’re minutely further from the center of the earth compared to standing at the poles. This explains the ever so slight gravitational reduction at the equator, given that the force decreases with distance.

Great day trip to the equator in Uganda! - Firstly, Moses is a wonderful and considerate tour guide. He made sure our visit was very pleasant and displayed his great local knowledge during the drive out and back. He gave us recommendations for where to buy small gifts and made sure that lunch was both delicious and timely. I highly recommend doing an equator day trip with him and his company. The equator physics demonstration was interesting and the ability to get an equator visit certificate was great and also very reasonably priced. Note: COVID safe precautions were used, with masks and frequent hand sanitizer.
