Discovering Langkawi’s Iconic Eagle Square

Our journey began at the iconic Eagle Square, or Dataran Lang, a place that holds both cultural and historical significance. As we approached the 12-meter tall statue of the reddish-brown eagle, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. The statue, perched majestically above the star-shaped concrete deck, overlooks the Kuah Jetty and serves as a welcoming symbol for travelers arriving in Langkawi.

The legend behind Langkawi’s name, derived from the Malay words ‘helang’ (eagle) and ‘kawi’ (reddish-brown), adds a layer of intrigue to this already fascinating landmark. My children were captivated by the story, and we spent a good amount of time taking photos and exploring the area. The open space allowed us to wander freely, and the kids enjoyed the opportunity to run around and play.

Next on our itinerary was the Durian Perangin Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled in the northeastern part of Langkawi. The journey to the waterfall was an adventure in itself, as we traversed through dense forests and intriguing rock formations. The kids were thrilled by the prospect of a waterfall, and their excitement was contagious.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the cool, refreshing waters cascading down the multi-tiered waterfall. Each cascade formed a freshwater pool at its base, inviting us to dip our toes and enjoy the natural beauty. The surrounding durian trees, from which the waterfall gets its name, added a unique touch to the landscape.

We spent the afternoon picnicking by the waterfall, surrounded by the sounds of nature. A Day at Tanjung Rhu Beach and Oriental Village

Our final stop was Tanjung Rhu Beach, a stunning coastal gem located on the northern tip of Langkawi Island. Known for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, the beach offered a tranquil setting for relaxation and exploration. The majestic limestone cliffs and verdant greenery provided a breathtaking backdrop, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists.

The kids were delighted by the opportunity to build sandcastles and splash in the gentle waves, while my wife and I took in the stunning views. Tanjung Rhu Beach is a place where time seems to stand still, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the moment and appreciate the simple pleasures of life.

Our adventure concluded at the Oriental Village, located at the foothills of Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park. This vibrant area is home to the Langkawi SkyCab and SkyBridge, renowned attractions that offer breathtaking views of the island. The village itself is a hub of activity, with unique shops, eateries, and instagrammable spots that capture the essence of Langkawi.

As we explored the Oriental Village, I couldn’t help but reflect on the diverse experiences Langkawi had offered us. From cultural landmarks to natural wonders, the island is a treasure trove of exploration and discovery. Our family left with memories that will last a lifetime, and a newfound appreciation for the scenic wonders of Langkawi.
