Watch out for 'private tour' upsales - This 'private' tour started off great. Our guide was waiting with a sign and a big smile. His English was rough but we could understand most of what he said. It was a nice drive through the island to our first stop with the giant eagle which was stunning. On the road again he began telling us about a great waterfall we were going to next. I didn't remember a waterfall in the tour description, but ok.... The place we stopped was actually a sales pitch for us to ride a motorcycle to the waterfall. My husband is mid-70 and I once crashed a moped. Needless to say, we don't ride motorcycles. They pushed some but we were strong in our'no'. Back into the car. Now our guide began talking about these amazing mangroves he was taking us to next with birds and monkeys. The way he described it, we thought it must be on the way to the sky tram. Guess again. We pull into an area of tourist stalls, he hopped out, told us to get out, pointed to a lady, and said she will help you with the mangroves, when you are done I am parked over there. Her drove off. Immediately the lady started showing us a number of mangrove tours we could take for an extra fee and another 1-2 hours. At this point we said enough. We walked to our driver and firmly told him to take us to the cable car and sky bridge - the main things we wanted to see and what we expected from the trip description. This is where things got weird. He called his boss who said the cable car wouldn't open until noon (it was 10:30) so we should do the mangrove tour or just stay at the beach. We said No. He drove off, was speaking intensely on the phone, suddenly pulled onto a dirt back road that went nowhere. We were getting quite concerned. He went back to the beach saying there were car problems and a cab was coming. And back on the phone. We sat there waiting. We kept insisting he take to the cable cars and we would wait there. Suddenly there were no more car problems and off we went. He passed his phone to me to talk to his boss who pushed more for us to stay at the beach. Emphatic no! It took over 1/2 hour to get the cable car area and it's now pushing noon. (Which is the time they had said our tickets were for when they were trying to get us to stay at the beach). As it turned out they did not have tickets, instead we had to get in line for tickets and learned the next opening was not until 1:30. We were so upset we said, just take us back to the ship. He put me on the phone again. The boss justified, tried to get us to take the spot and etc. Wasn't good. Finally the driver took us back and we spent the whole morning not getting to do the very thing that we purchased the excursion for. Through Whatsapp the boss asked if he could try to fix it? How? By then it's too late. I said he could refund and he said no. Then he wished me a Merry Christmas (PS this was Christmas Day).
