Along the way, take breaks to admire tea and coffee plantations and visit the largest open-air market in East Africa at Karatina. Aberdare National Park is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, warthogs, and bushbucks. You may also spot rare animals such as the Giant Forest hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wild cat, African civet cat, and the blue duiker.

Aberdare to Solio Ranch

Solio Game Reserve - After breakfast, head out to explore Solio Game Reserve. Established in 1970, Solio began as a cattle ranch in 1966 and has since become the world’s largest White Rhino sanctuary, also housing a significant Black Rhino population. Today, Solio Conservancy is home to over 200 rhinos, both Black and White. Enjoy the stunning backdrop of Mt. Kenya, with its peaks often visible through the clouds. The reserve offers numerous rhino sightings, particularly Southern White Rhinos. Other mammals you may encounter include Hilgert’s Vervet Monkey, Thomson’s Gazelle, African Buffalo, Defassa Waterbuck, Olive Baboon, Beisa Oryx, Common Eland, Common Warthog, Slender Mongoose, Reticulated Giraffe, and Steenbok. Birdwatchers can look forward to seeing the majestic Grey Crowned Crane, the dazzling Jackson’s Widowbird, and the regal Steppe Eagle.
