Additional Information

ESSENTIAL ALASKA ADVENTURE! This is one of the top-rated excursions along the stunning Inside Passage of Alaska. Gain insights into the lifestyle of a professional fisherman from individuals who have braved the harsh Bering Sea. These professionals are genuine! You’ll be onboard Aleutian Ballad, a vessel showcased on the Discovery Channel’s widely watched series, Deadliest Catch. Travel through the tranquil, safe channels of the Inside Passage under the guidance of a seasoned crew, watching as a variety of marine animals are trapped and brought on deck. The catch is then kept in a live tank for viewing before being returned to the wild. Get ready to witness king crab, box crab, octopus, rockfish, prawns, and more. If you’re lucky, you might glimpse local creatures like sea lions and porpoises. This tour is globally recognized for its extraordinary wild eagle sightings.

  • Minimum age is 5 years, no exceptions due to coast guard regulations.
  • You MUST BE ON BOARD THE ALEUTIAN BALLAD for check in 15 minutes before your departure time.
  • If you are concerned about seasickness, please note that this tour stays in the calm, protected waters of the Inside Passage and does not go out into the open ocean; large waves and rough seas will not be encountered. You WILL NOT be in the Bering Sea.
  • Please note: additional transportation is not required, as it is a short, easy walk to get to the fishing boat from any downtown Ketchikan hotel or cruise ship.
  • Wheelchair accessible, please advise at time of booking if wheelchair assistance is required.
  • Guests arriving at Ward Cove need to meet an hour early to get into town. We will provide bus transportation for you but it is very important you know to meet AN HOUR EARLY to account for travel time into Ketchikan.

Greatest Alaskan Adventure - So enjoyable and fun. Highlight for me was the feeding of the eagles. As soon as they saw the ship there were more eagles than u could count. The captain and crew were so knowledgeable and fun to be around

Amazing day in every way despite the weather - This trip was amazing. The weather was not the best but the crew and boat is well prepared to keep you dry and entertained. So many wonderful stories and history about the boat, the area, the crew and of course the fishing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our day from start to finish. Hugs to Capt Dave and the entire crew!

A fun time on a moving classroom/ comedy show - The crew includes great storytellers, lots of demonstrations of fishing and crabbing techniques and an opportunity to see more than a dozen eagles up close and personal. Funny, surprising, interesting, educational, entertaining, and even touchingly emotional at times. Highly recommended for something different to do.

Go for the crabs, stay for the Eagles - Great tour!! It was so cool to learn about the Bering Sea, fishing and crabs. The boat has plenty of warm clothes so no matter the weather (it rained all day for us) you will be dry and warm. By far the coolest part was seeing all the eagles! They are able to feed eagles in Native sovereign waters and it was AMAZING! I got the best photos! Plus you get to hold a crab on the boat, don't miss this!

Ten out of ten! - Great trip! Big D and Andy plus the Captain and crew are seasoned Bering Sea fishermen and it shows. Expertise and experience are evident in everything. Big D and Andy offer knowledge of the crabs, fish, eagles and even a very large Pacific octopus. We saw beautiful crabs, starfish and a host of other fish, line caught and trapped as well. The full crabbing process was demonstrated clearly, to show exactly how all those delicious king crabs are trapped and kept alive for a he cannery. The ship is very clean and orderly, plenty of restrooms and the seats are comfortable. There is a galley where passengers can purchase a crab lunch. It is cold and super delicious. Soft drinks are available and there is a gift shop. This is way better than Deadliest Catch, and the boat has appeared on the show. I can’t say enough good things about the folks who work on this boat. Knowledgeable, clever and fun—all of them!
