Hike along an improved gravel trail beside a forested lake at the base of a mountain, with plenty of photo opportunities. The second mile features a more natural path with gravel, large rocks, and roots as you climb through an old-growth rainforest showcasing magnificent Sitka spruce and western hemlock trees.
At an elevation of 1100 feet, you’ll reach the base of an avalanche chute. The next 3/4 mile climbs an additional 550 feet to an alpine overlook at 1650 feet, our final destination. Be one of only two tours per day permitted on this treasured trail.

While we can’t reach the mountain’s summit, we do ascend approximately 1100 feet, culminating at an elevation of 1600 feet where the improved trail ends. Here, you’ll be greeted with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, the lake, and Tongass Narrows below. This tour is offered just once daily.
