Khudi - The journey into the hills begins on a winding road alongside the Trishuli River. Along the way, travelers can enjoy views of terraced farms and charming cottages. After reaching a junction at Mugling, the route continues straight towards Pokhara. At Dumre, the path diverges north to Besisahar. A thirty-minute drive from Besisahar leads to Khudi, the starting point of the trek. Alternatively, one can disembark at Besisahar and trek for an hour to reach Khudi along a wide trail. Khudi offers the first glimpse of the stunning Manaslu range.
Khudi to Sirung (2200m/7216 ft): 6 - 7 hours
Khudi - The first day’s trek involves crossing several suspension bridges and waterfalls, with some ascents and descents across rice paddies and a subtropical forest. The cold and dry climate creates a much harsher environment. A short visit to Barge monastery, the largest monastery in the entire Manang district, will be memorable. Overnight in Manang.
Manang: Acclimatization day
Manang - To stay fit for the trails ahead, a short hike to either Bhojo Gumba or Gangapurna Lake is undertaken today. If energy permits, a climb to Vraga Village is possible, where the Himalayan Rescue Association provides information about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Overnight in Manang.
Manang to Yak Kharka (4,110m/13,484ft): 3 - 4 hours
Manang - From Manang village, the trail crosses a stream, ascends to the village of Tenki, and continues to climb out of the Marshyangdi Valley, turning northwest up the Jarsang Khola valley. The trail follows this valley northward, passing a few pastures and a scrub of juniper trees, steadily gaining altitude. The trail also passes near the small village of Ghunsa, a cluster of flat mud roofs just below the trailhead. The trail then goes through meadows where horses and yaks graze.
