Highlights
  • Musanze District - Depart from Kigali after briefing from a Silverbird representative at 07:00am. Stop by a picturesque waterfall where you’ll stop for photography before driving on to a tea plantation.
Proceed to Lake Kivu the sun rays emerge from the hills as the birds sing, king fishers strive to get their first catch, a cool breeze streams over you and a string of green hills engulf lake kivu. You’ll get into the boat that will sail from the shore and you’ll begin to reconnoiter lake Kivu. The sight of the native fishing boats will amuse you as their fishing methods are native to the region and appear to be inherent as it’s the economic activity of this region while the residents by the lake shores cheer you on. You’ll proceed to the Hot spring. Feel free to get a massage with hot spring water. You’ll then return to the point of Origin. your last stop will be at cultural village of the Gorilla guardians a group of reformed poachers. Return to Kigali after this memorable experience.

Perfect Experience - Highly Recommended - Once you arrive at Kivu Lake, your breath will be taken by how massive and beautiful the lake and views are. We even got a chance to sit in the hot spring! We ended our day at El Classico Beach Restaurant, to say the food was delicious is an understatement. Our guide was great! Fiacre was knowledgeable and safe. Communication with Silver Bird Tours was easy, highly recommend the company and guide.

Beautiful lake trip! - Jonathan was a great guide! Very friendly and caring. The village has some interesting portions, but was a little gimmicky for my taste. The TripAdvisor/Viator listing needs to be updated, because you do not visit the hot springs or a tea plantation. Lake Kivu, however was stunning and the boat ride was very serene. Also, it should be noted just the drive from Kigali to the lake is quite beautiful - driving through the countryside you get to see many different facets of Rwanda.

Amazing daytrip including a lot of experiences - Silverbird Tours helped me plan a daytrip from Kigali to Lake Kivu and then delivering me at the airport at the end. The company is wonderful to work with - thry reply fast by e-mail, give advice and are totally reliable. The driver, Justin, was great at making conversation, explaining and giving good inside information about the country. In this trip I saw coffee and tea plantations, views of landscape and scenery, traditional dancing, tasted local food and experienced Lake Kivu. The whole daytrip gave me so much impressions and it was a fantastic way to see Rwanda.

Inspiring and grounding experience - The whole experience was enlightening. I love the Gorrilla Guardians Village tour the most - getting to learn about their traditional customers and partaking in some of them. Jonathan was an amazing driver and guide. He is a great conversationalist and his passion for Rwanda was very infectious.

Great Day Trip - It is truly a lovely ride thru the hilly terrain of Rwanda. We stop at a small waterfall along the way to Lake Kivu as well as cultural village for a glimpse of Rwandan history. The village was most interesting. We had a nice lunch along the lake prior to boarding our boat. We were on Lake Kivu motoring along the shoreline for about an hour which was very peaceful & relaxing.

spectacular journey to the Kivu Lac - The trip and the team (thank you Faith!) was excellent. The journey was breathtaking with fantastic landscape and incredible spots: we stop in the local open market, walked down to a waterfall, deep dive in the traditional way of living and the beauty of the volcano landscapes, sailed on the Kivu lac... Great nature and honorable culture. Great team: very flexible, super professional, extra nice. I recommend the trip and the provider.

A scenic and well-organised tour - It’s a very scenic tour with a rich and diverse program. I had a wonderful company of Justin (driver and guide) and Faith (guide trainee) - fun, laid back and very cordial. Justin was driving very safely, which I very much appreciated it. My highlight was the moment when we were floating in the middle of the lake with motor off. The tour was well-organised and the communication with the company was clear and easy.

Peter is amazing! - Peter took y private group on a city tour and it was so good that we decided to use him for our Lake Kivu tour. And as expected, everything was great! The car, the stops at the waterfall and the Gorilla Guardians Village, the pictures and videos Peter took of us... all of it was amazing. I'm recommending him to everyone I know coming to Rwanda.

Interesting but dangerous visit - Find out about the geographical location (border with the DRC) and why Lake Kivu is called "Lake of Death" (dangerous...) Once we chose to go there, the driver was very nice but I wasn't reassured by his driving. It is a lake where you cannot swim and to benefit from the services of the Serena hotel, this is not included in the service. The boat ride is quite nice (but nothing more). Very nice and attentive driver but I would have ultimately done something else.
