Transfer to Akagera National Park from Kigali

Kigali - After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, the safari guide will pick up the guests for the journey to Akagera National Park. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours, depending on any stops along the way. The scenic route offers stunning landscapes, and guests are encouraged to request stops for photo opportunities. Upon arrival at the park, a brief game drive will be followed by check-in at the accommodation for lunch. After ordering lunch, guests will embark on a boat trip on Lake Ihema to observe hippos and crocodiles in the water or along the shores, and possibly see buffaloes and elephants near the water banks. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Bashana Companies & Imigongo Art Center - Midway from Kigali, there will be a stop at the Imigongo Art Center and café for a break. Guests can stretch their legs, view Imigongo art, use the facilities, and perhaps enjoy a cup of coffee or other refreshments.

Akagera National Park - Arriving at Akagera by 12:30 PM, guests will complete registration and COVID-19 protocols. They will then proceed to Akagera Mantis Lodge or Ruzizi Tented Lodge for lunch and check-in before heading to Lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park and the second largest in Rwanda. A one-hour boat ride will allow guests to explore the natural beauty of the forest.

Game Drive and Transfer Back to Kigali

Akagera Live Tour - After an early breakfast at 7:30 AM, guests will depart for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park to observe late-night hunters and early risers. The search will focus on large mammals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various antelope species, and the recently reintroduced lions and rhinos. The park offers diverse habitats for wildlife and is home to over 500 bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. The meal plan includes breakfast and lunch.

Guests will leave the lodge with a packed lunch for the game drive, which will last about 6 hours, depending on their interests, before beginning the return journey to Kigali. The route along the lake often provides sightings of various animals. Guests will be dropped off at their lodge, hotel, home, or the airport in time for their evening flight.
