Kigoma, a significant town on Lake Tanganyika’s shores, shares its boundaries with DR Congo, Burundi, and Zambia. This town was one of the earliest settlements preceding the colonial era, owing to its strategic location. Known also as Kigoma/Ujiji, it stands as one of East Africa’s oldest towns, parallel to Lamu, Mombasa, Kilwa, Bagamoyo, and Zanzibar. Serving as a major hub for trade and the slave business was its primary role.
