- Hurling Tours Ireland - Visitors will gain a unique cultural Irish experience through the native sport of hurling. Established in the home of hurling, Kilkenny, guests will be given the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Irish culture by attempting Irelands most ancient and cultural past time. The activity begins with an introduction to the sport inside the intense environment of a teams dressing room. You will discover the origins of the unique sport, hurling and how even in 2024 it remains the fastest field sport in the world. Many moments can occur in the dressing room on match days, things such a aggressive team talks, sweat and tears among some of the more memorable images. You can almost sense the agony and ecstacy from the dressing room upon arrival. Once you are up to date with the basics of the game, you will be brought out to ‘the field of dreams’ . Here, you will be thought the basic skills of ground strike, hand pass, solo run, and hand strike and even take a shot at the goalposts.

At Hurling Tours Ireland, we offer a distinctive cultural Irish experience for our guests. Based in Kilkenny, the birthplace of hurling, we provide an opportunity for visitors to deeply engage with Irish culture by trying out our oldest sport, hurling. This game, rich in tradition and history, is played with unparalleled passion and intensity.
Our hurling experience in Freshford allows visitors to enjoy the sport in a traditional Irish pub located in the heart of the village. Here, we present the history and rules of hurling to our guests.
People from various nationalities and backgrounds have come to love hurling and the culture it fosters in Ireland. Visitors from Canada, the USA, and Australia have even vowed to join a GAA Club upon returning home. It’s never too late to try something new, especially a sport that is central to Irish culture and community.

Great time for all ages - James ensured everyone in our group had a great time—little children to grandparents. He was positive and funny and very interesting. We learned a lot about hurling, which enriched our trip to Ireland. I highly recommend this experience!

So much fun! - If you have kids (and a husband) who play/love sports and need a break from castles and tours do not miss this! James passion and love for the game was fantastic! I wasn’t as good as the others but had a good “Craic” at it. We would have loved to stay a day or two longer to watch the Women’s Camogie finals at Croke Park. So much fun!

Absolutely perfect afternoon! - Wow! What a spectacular experience. We were traveling through Kilkenny with four generations ages 5-84 and we had a ball learning the basics of Hurling! Our guide was incredibly charismatic and made the hour extremely fun. We highly recommend this experience for families, and really anyone at all!

I will spread the good word of hurling! - James was full of passion and patience as he told us Americans and a Swiss family all about hurling. Eleven year old Jake was also a wonderful host and coach. So very fun to actually practice on the pitch. Would have stayed for the three hour match! Highly recommend.

Highly recommend Hurling with James - Fantastic experience. Our instructor, James, was knowledgeable, experienced, informative and interjected just the right amount of humor allowing all of us to feel comfortable learning a new sport. James’s son was also delightful and helpful.
The initial video and discussion about Hurling was perfect. Just the right amount of background before heading to the pitch to learn each Hurling technique.

Hurling in Kilkenny - We had a wonderful time with James learning about the sport of hurling and camogie. First he explained the history and how it’s played. Then we went out to the field to try our luck at the sport. It was such a fun experience. I would definitely recommend you take this tour.
