Highlights

Meet your guide at 11am outside O’Sheas Funeral Home opposite St. Marys Cathedral for a two hour walk of Killarney National Park. This can be extended to a longer walk if desired.

The cathedral was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin who came over to Killarney from London, and building commenced in 1842. During the great famine the unfinished building was used as a shelter for starving people who came in from the countryside. The lovely thatched cottage Deenagh Lodge which once served as a gate lodge is now a popular tea rooms during the summer months.

Queen Victoria was a visitor to this area back in 1861 arriving in Killarney by train, a new age travel as the railway first opened in Killarney in 1853. Sika deer were introduced to the area from Wicklow in 1865, and there is now a good number of them. The native red deer are a bigger attraction they came close to extinction but thankfully there now is a good size herd in the National Park.

The year 1969 was an exciting one as Charles De Gaulle spent nearly two weeks in a cottage nearby with a big security presence. The film Ryans Daughter was filmed in Dingle, but the love scene was done in the National Park. Not surprising as the scenery speaks for itself.

All the local guides have a great love of their home place, so you can be guaranteed an informative tour.

Really recommended - It was a super interesting tour. We have gained many impressions outside the tourist places. The tour guide was very friendly and could tell many interesting and funny aspects. It was a lot of fun. We recommend the tour in any case.

A relaxed walk through the beauty of Killarney's National Park - We had a wonderful walk with Richard in Killarney's National Park -- mixing history with learning about the flora and fauna of the park. It was like taking a relaxed walk with a friend -- with great conversation, recommendations on pubs and other place to visit in Killarney and beautiful views. Thank you Richard, we enjoyed meeting you and exploring some of the sites of the beautiful park.

A hidden gem - I booked this tour spontaneously and didn't have very high expectations, but it turned out to be an amazing experience thanks to our guide Mike! He was just fantastic - super friendly and knowledgeable, and a true local. There was only one other person in the group (a female solo-traveler just like me) so it almost seemed like a private tour. Mike took "off the beaten path" quite literally and we saw some places that I never would've discovered on my own. It was by far the best walking tour I've ever done!

Amazing and interesting walk in the Park - We had an amazing walk in Killarney National Park with our really friendly and interesting guide, James. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, the flora and fauna and even sang us a couple of old Irish songs. Got some great photos. A great way to see what the Park has to offer.

Eating wild herbs, while listening to Irish legends and landscape knowledge. - It was a tiny group of people. I could share much more, and more awesome pictures, but this photo underlines the lively atmosphere that the guide managed to create: many stories, both natural and legendary, and all laced with loads of humor. Below is one of his stories:______________ This memorial is in honor of the monk who elevated HYPERSOMNIA to an art: He was tired and took a rest under this tree. He woke up and walked back to his abbey where, strangely enough, no one seemed to know him. When they searched the name book they found him: He was once known, but inexplicably disappeared... two hundred years earlier!

Lovely walk in Killarney National Park - We really enjoyed that walk in Killarney National Park. Our guide had a cornucopia of knowledge about the area and especially the trees, flowers, and plants. He even sang some Irish tunes for us! And we saw 2 large herds of deer, much to my daughter's delight. Highly recommend!
