- Ross Castle - The tour begins at Ross Castle, located 2km from Killarney. This castle was the O’Donoghue family’s stronghold in the 14th century and is situated on the shores of Lough Léin. While there is no charge to explore the castle grounds, the guided tour requires an additional fee, payable at the reception. Unfortunately, guests will not have enough time to complete the full guided tour before the boats depart. The boat tour leaves at 10:30 am from the main stone pier on the lake side of the castle. Look for the green boats and ask for Rory. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for loading bikes.
Please note: bike rental is not included in the tour. Guests should rent bikes in Killarney and travel to Ross Castle, as there is no bike rental available at the castle.
- Innisfallen Island - The first stop on the tour is the monastic settlement on Innisfallen Island. Passengers will receive a comprehensive history of the area from their boat driver and will have 15 minutes to explore the ruins.
- Lough Leane - Lough Leane is the largest lake in Killarney. After departing Innisfallen Island, the next stop is the shore of Tomies Mountain. A nest of White Tailed Sea Eagles has been present along this shore for the past 18 years since their reintroduction to the area. These eagles are the largest birds of prey in Europe and are a magnificent sight in the wild.
- Meeting of the Waters - After leaving Lough Leane, the boats will enter Muckross Lake and head towards the Meeting of the Waters. Here, guests may need to disembark for a 10-minute wooded walk to allow the boats to navigate a particularly shallow area.
- Lord Brandon’s Cottage - The secluded café at Lord Brandon’s Cottage marks the end of the boat tour. From here, guests will begin a 25km cycle back to Killarney. The route is on a sealed road, and after 11km, guests will pass by Kate Kearney’s Cottage, a famous bar along the way. Please note: meals and snacks are not included in the tour cost. Due to its remote location among the hills, Lord Brandon’s Cottage only accepts cash.
