The Journey Begins: A Midnight Adventure

As the clock struck 2:20 am, the serene streets of Ubud lay silent, save for the gentle hum of our vehicle. Our driver, Kadek, a warm and friendly soul, greeted us with a smile that promised an unforgettable journey. As we settled into the car, the anticipation of the adventure ahead filled the air. The drive to the base of Mount Batur was a quiet one, allowing us to catch a few more moments of rest before the trek.

Upon arrival at Jerro’s home, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Batur, we were welcomed with open arms. The early morning chill was palpable, and we were grateful for the walking sticks, flashlights, and water provided by Jerro and his team. The darkness enveloped us as we began our ascent, guided only by the faint glow of our flashlights and the reassuring presence of Jerro.

The initial part of the trek took us through Jerro’s family farm, a peaceful landscape of chili and onion fields. As we moved forward, the terrain shifted to a more challenging forested path, eventually giving way to the rugged volcanic soil. The climb was strenuous, testing both our physical and mental endurance. Yet, Jerro’s patience and encouragement were unwavering, offering us the strength to push forward.

Reaching New Heights: A Sunrise to Remember

As we neared the summit, the first light of dawn began to break, painting the sky in hues of red and orange. The breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape, with the imposing silhouette of Mount Agung in the distance, was a sight to behold. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming as we reached the peak, greeted by the warmth of the rising sun.

Jerro, ever the gracious host, prepared a simple yet delightful breakfast of eggs and bananas, cooked using the volcanic steam vents.
