Breathtaking sunrise hiking mount Batur. 10/10. - Breathtaking. Epic. Beautiful.
No words can desribe the feeling of watching the sunrise with your own eyes on top of a mountain.
After extreme uphill hike nonstop for 2 hours with only 1,5 hours of sleep the night before.
After the hike down we got to relax and enjoy the natural hotspring nearby.
10/10 adventure/journey.
It was worth everything.
Just ignore all the pushy sellers at the top.
If you want to support them please negotiate halfprice of whatever they say.
I would say i’m in decent physical shape,
Not the best stamina but also not the worst.
This hike did take its toll on my body/legs.
Not a recommended trip for seniors or anyone with physical problems/pain.
We were 3 and had a local guide with us called ”Weedy”, she was amazing. Thank you for everything.

Highly recommended for camping. - If you like rustic atmosphere this is a good place to go. We were able to swim among little fish and newborn turtles.

The most untouristy Real Bali Experience - We did the Mt Batur Camping and got to see both sunset and sunrise on top of Mt Batur. We were picked up from our stay and dropped off, and our driver took us to a coffee plantation on the way as well. Our climbing guide Mata was so helpful and stayed with us the entire time, walking at our snail speed and still making sure that we get to the top for the sunset. He also made us hot chocolate and snacks as soon as we arrived and made us dinner. Really impressive for the limited things they have at the pit stops at the top. We really appreciated going the evening before as our legs were dying and we can't imagine having to go both up and down in the morning. The tent is a camping tent, as you would expect. It was perfect for us as we are campers. They had sleeping bags and airport pillows. We brought an extra jacket and thermals just in case. At night, there was a bonfire with one other group that was camping and we got to enjoy the fire and night sky. A really beautiful experience and the most untouristy real experience we had in Bali. They also took us to the hot spring after, which was perfect for our body.

Very memorable experience. - Very memorable experience.
We were picked up from our hotel in Sanur and driven to the base of Mt Batur. I was with my two daughters and couple joined us for the camping trip. Our guides were very attentive making sure we were ok with the walk up the volcano and that we had lots of water.
We set off about 4pm and it took about an hour and half to the top, so we had a bit of time before watching the sunset which was spectacular.
It starts out as a steady walk up. The steeper parts are not that far but enough to get a sweat up. We stopped for water breaks on the way. There were some locals on motor bikes who give lifts part way up if you want.
Their is a wooden building near the top and our guides provided a meal in the evening which was nice. We also got a couple of beers taken up for us to have in the evening and they got a camp fire going a little lower down the volcano, so pleasant evening chatting round the camp fire.
There is no toilet building at the top but a designated area to visit. Slow and steady in the dark after a few beers. We were provided head torches.
Their were 2 good sized tents setup for us near the summit, with thin sleeping mats. The ground was level and we had bought lots of warm clothes and slept quite well until about 5am when people were starting to walk past near the tents on their way to watch the sunrise.
We watched sunrise from outside our tents, it was quite cold and we put lots of warm kit on. Our guides also provided hot drinks and breakfast. Once sunrise was over a lot of people set off back down soon after, so we had a bit of time to walk around the summit with few people.
Getting down was a lot easier than going up but still a bit hot as there are some steepish parts.
Once down we were taken to the hot springs which are lovely, we were there a couple of hours and could have stayed longer. Just what you need after camping on Mt Batur.

The best thing I’ve done in Bali! - This was one of the best, if not the best experience that I’ve had in Bali. We were picked up from our hotel by a very friendly taxi driver, all organised by the company. We then met our guide who took us to the top of the mountain for sunset. The crazy thing is that there was no one there at sunset bar me, my friend and the guide, so we had the whole mountain to ourselves. We then had a nice meal in the evening and spent the night camping on the summit. We woke up at 5 am in the morning to then catch the sunrise which was also incredible. However there were about 300 other people who trekked up the mountain to watch the sunrise too, which is why catching the sunset in the evening before was so special because we had the entire place to ourselves. If you really want to experience this mountain and you want to do it in a unique way that no one else has done then camping should be a no brainer and this trip was one of the best things I’ve ever done. This is especially true if you want to get some amazing photographs. I couldn’t recommend this experience more, and feel very lucky to have done it.

Great add-on to any Bali trip!! - This was definitely a highlight of our trip. Despite getting pretty awful wet and windy weather, we still got to see an amazing sunrise and it was well worth the trek.
It was fantastic to walk both up and down in daylight as the track is not well maintained and pretty rough going (compared to western hiking trails). It also meant we had the mountain top to ourselves before sunset so we could explore the top without the crowds (in the morning it gets very busy).
Our trail guide was very friendly and prepared an amazing traditional dinner up on the mountain and showed us how to cook eggs in the crater steam. Overall a fantastic experience!
The only thing that could be improved is the sleeping set-up. They provided a plane neck pillow, sleeping bag and a small mat on the ground (all inside the tent). The mat wasn’t enough though and the ground felt very hard - my partner and I both didn’t sleep at all. I would recommend they invest in having a small soft mattress or similar as well as a proper pillow for each person to make this experience better.

Crowded crawl to the top, mediocre view - As scores of others, we started the “hike” at 4 am. It is very crowded, and obviously as you like there is nothing to see cuz it is dark. Locals (including children) trying to sell you stuff. The “summit is “crowned” with shacks of corrugated metal and littered with trash. The view is quite mediocre. The descent is along an equally crowded and dusty trail - in addition to pedestrians there are also motorbikes constantly going up and down.
Would never do this again.

Overrated activity on Bali - watch sunrise by the sea instead - Overrated, too expensive, tough ride. Requires good shape and good shoes with rough soles, so you can stick to cliffs and loose soil, both up and down. Guide, which one should have on the trip) told absolutely nothing on the way up and down, spoke very poor English. Didn't even keep track of our group.
The trip cost too much money and cost a night's sleep and a tired day after the trip. Look for a sunrise by the sea, where the sun mirrors itself in the surface of the water.
