The drive takes approximately 4 hours, with stops along the way to stretch, take photos, and grab lunch. Your first safari stop is at Botlierskop, a malaria-free private game reserve near Mosselbay, where you can spot giraffes, white rhinos, kudus, lions, elephants, zebras, and wildebeests from an open 4x4 vehicle.

Just when you think your bush experience couldn’t get any better, you’ll disembark for a 15-minute tranquil bush walking safari, following your field game ranger to track wildlife up close.

Oudtshoorn - The landscape changes dramatically over the next 50 miles, shifting from green to dusty greys as you enter the relatively arid Klein Karoo region and the ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn.

Spend a relaxing evening in Oudtshoorn at your accommodation. You can ask your guide to book an optional “braai” barbecue dinner at the backpackers (subject to availability) to taste ostrich meat (“sosaties”) and homemade bread (“pot brood”), or explore other local dining options. Buffelsdrift Game Lodge - Activities - After breakfast, dive into the Klein Karoo bush with a 2-hour open-topped 4x4 safari drive at Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve.
