Well worth a visit - Hubby, 13 year old son and I all spent a great hour and a half here. We experienced a fascinating educational tour about harvesting and processing olives, lavender and figs, a small museum, a sizeable garden with hundreds of individually named edible plants, a cafe and shop. The gift shop is amazing as there are many opportunities to try free samples of the excellent wide range of foods which our teenager was really enthusiastic about. I'm not a keen shopper anywhere but even I couldn't stop myself buying a bag full of goodies to take home despite there being no pressure from staff to make a purchase.
If travelling by bus, there are a range of options which Google Maps shows. We arrived by number 22 bus from Split which passes both the Klis fortress and the olive museum. As the 22 buses are infrequent, we took the number 80 bus back to Split. Walking between the fortress and the Olive Museum is just over a mile and there is a choice of two roads, with the higher one being more of a stony track with no traffic but better views.

On top! - Quiet site presenting the manufacture of olive oil and various varieties of plants.
A restaurant with local produce as well as a shop complete this panorama.
However, couple this tour with the fortress (ticket including both sites) because each site taken independently is relatively quick to visit.

Must do if you’re in Split! - Such a great value! We loved Stella Croatica and the tavern on site is 1000% worth stopping for lunch afterwards. You’ll definitely want to plan on getting an Uber to get you from the museum to Klis fortress as it’s a 20 min walk with no sidewalks and on an incline.

A great location to visit historic attractions, enjoy local produce and learn some things about Croatian culture - We took the public bus (number 22) from Split and missed our scheduled stop for Klis Fortress-there was little signage to say we had arrived and the driver informative. After panicking slightly, we alighted the bus at the next stop, Stella Croatica. It was a delightful experience, one we didn't plan for, but thoroughly enjoyed. The museum was very welcoming and our tour guide took us on a journey of fig, lavender and olive growing history in the region, showing us and explaining the traditional ways of growing, harvesting and production, comparing them to the modern day equivalent. She was very knowledgeable and all of the staff had great grasp of the English language.
We were taken through the cottage gardens, which had an array of herbs, trees and flowers, which looked and smelt beautiful.
We eventually ended up in the shop, where we could smell, touch and taste the olive oils, honey, facial and body creams and other amazing produce grown on the farm. The aromas and flavours were exceptional and great care was taken to allow us to sample without any hard selling from the staff.
The museum also has a farm cafe, selling local food and drinks.
Having this unexpected visit left us enthralled and puzzled as to how to get to the Klis Fortress. Buses ran hourly until noon and then less frequently during the heat of the day. One option was a 20 minute walk (in 34° heat) along a tributary road, but we decided to try for a taxi/Uber. We were pleasantly surprised to find an uber 4 minutes away. The driver spoke good English and took us the 4 minute journey to the fort.
Klis Fortress is set back from the road on a hill, which doesn’t look very imposing until you reach the top and look at the vista around you. It had good commentary around the fort, on signs in both Croatian and English. There was some mention of the making of Game of Thrones, but not as many as expected.
The views were amazing, looking down the valley to Split, the coastline and hills surrounding it. Some part of it were built on a pinnacle in 2 BC and is baffling to work out how it was built.
We had a 2 hour wait for the 22 bus back to Split, but enjoyed the shade of the local bar at the base of the hill, next to the fortress.
These 2 attractions had superb history and information attached to them and I would definitely recommend visiting them.

Olive oil museum/fortress - The fortress is fascinating and really helped me understand Croatian history better. But I made the mistake of walking to the olive oil museum from there in the heat. I was very sick when I got there- nausea, dizzy, etc. Dragica and Pina took such wonderful care of me to make sure I was recovered. After their help, I took the tour and found it fascinating and educational. The store was fabulous also.

hard climbing for some, be prepared for steep terrain… but well worth the effort if you’re up to the climb

Exciting and great views - The Olive Museum offers an exciting overview of the discovery and production of olive oil in Croatia. There is a guided tour that does not take very long. The guide could have taken a little more time here, but absolutely fine for the price. In the end, locally produced products can be bought at fair prices.
The fortress offers a beautiful view over the region. The climb was absolutely worth it. Otherwise it was much too hot for us at 37 degrees to visit the fort in detail.

Fortress yes. Musuem you can skip - Great fortress and an amazing view
Please do not walk between the two venues. On over half of the distance it is a busy road with no sideway. The museum you are rushed through to get to their store.
