In the early 1930s, artists from Bona, Gianyar, developed the Kecak dance by incorporating the Ramayana story, replacing the Sanghyang Dance, allowing it to be performed publicly as an art form. The first part of the Ramayana story adapted for this dance is the abduction of Goddess Sita by King Rahvana.
