Highlights
  • Chinese Fishing Nets - The Chinese fishing nets, locally known as “Cheena Vala,” are fixed installations on the shoreline for a unique type of fishing — shore-operated lift nets. Predominantly found around Kochi in Kerala, these large mechanical structures stand at least 10 meters high and feature a cantilever net suspended over the sea, with large stones hanging from ropes as counterweights on the other end. Each structure is operated by a team of up to six fishermen.
  • Fort Kochi Beach - Fort Kochi Beach runs along one side of the town of Fort Kochi. While the town once had fort walls and bastions, they no longer exist.
  • Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica - Among the eight basilicas in India, the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Fort Kochi stands out as one of the most magnificent and impressive. Named Santa Cruz because it was founded on May 3, 1505, the feast day of the “Invention of the Holy Cross,” the church underwent significant demolition and reconstruction during its construction.
  • Mattancherry Palace - The Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is one of the finest examples of Keralan architecture with colonial influences. Built by the Portuguese in 1545 CE as a gift for King Veera Kerala Verma of the Kochi dynasty, it was later extensively repaired by the Dutch, earning it the name Dutch Palace. The two-story palace is adorned with a beautiful collection of murals.
  • Paradesi Synagogue - Located in a quiet part of Jew Town, the Paradesi Synagogue is over a century old and houses numerous rare antiques. Built in 1568, almost 1500 years after Jews first established ties with Kerala, the synagogue stands on land donated by the former Cochin ruler, adjacent to Mattancherry Palace.
  • Cochin Spice Market - With its traditional buildings and the aroma of spices, the spice markets in Kochi evoke a bygone era.
  • Jain Temple - A place of worship for the Jain community in Kochi, the temple is renowned for its daily noontime ritual of feeding the pigeons.

Lovely tour with Lal - Lal was a thoughtful and interesting guide and he showed me parts of Kochi that I probably wouldn’t have gone to. I loved the laundry and the women’s cooperative spice market but everywhere was interesting. Lal has stayed in touch sending me videos of festivals and is keeping Koch in my heart.

Great experience! - It was a really good way to explore Kochi! Jalal was a great guide, explaining us everything and showing as many pretty, insightful places! We really liked the tour and would highly recommend it. You can choose the time to start the tour and also decide on your own, how long to stay at each stop. The Tuktuk had very comfortable seats and the breeze made it pleasant to ride in. Very well organized. Thanks a lot again!

Excellent trip, great value! - We were very lucky to get Sajeeb as our driver as he took great care of us and showed us many of the sights that Fort Kochi has to offer. We arrived in Cochin on a Celebrity cruise ship, Millenium. We looked at their trips and found them to be extremely expensive or not to our liking so I found this trip online. Communication was great and we arranged to meet Sajeeb our Tuk Tuk driver at 09:00. He was there promptly and we set off. Amongst other things we saw the meat & fish market (not for the faint hearted), the Chinese fishing nets, the laundry (tried our hand at ironing with a 9kg iron), the tomb of Vasco da Gama and the beach where we paddled in the warm Arabian Sea! Sajeeb was very attentive and took lots of pictures for us. Admittedly there were stops at shops but no real pressure to buy. We did buy some tea in the Spice shop. Overall I’d rate Sajeeb, the trip and all at Tuk Tuk Savari very highly and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Tuk tuk tour - Excellent. Sanjay let us pick and choose from the sites we wanted to visit. If visits to additional shops are suggested you can say yes or no. The tuk tuk saved us so much walking and time. Laundry visit was a highlight!
