Highlights
  • Chinese Fishing Nets - The huge cantilevered Chinese fishing nets that that droop towards the waters like over-sized hammocks have become a hallmark that represents Fort Kochi on the tourist map. Once just a fishing accessory, it is a now a big bait for tourists.

The Chinese nets, made of teak wood and bamboo poles, work on the principle of balance. Each structure, about 10m high, is fixed on the beach and has a cantilever with an attached net that is spread over an area of about 20 meters. Counterweights, usually stones about 30 cm in diameter, tied to ropes of different lengths, facilitate the working of the nets. Often, lights, attached to the teak posts. are suspended above the net to attract fish.

Each fishing net is operated by more than four fishermen and is made in such a way that the weight of a man walking on the main plank is enough to cause the equipment to be pulled down into the sea.

Thank you Joseph for a wonderful tour! - We had a few hours to explore fort kochi and bumped into Joseph who was a God send- he gave us a wonderful tour of the area and suggested all the best spots peppered with interesting facts. He patiently waited for us while we spent time at the museums and politely suggested places that were not on our list but which we enjoyed visiting too. He was extremely kind, polite and knowledgeable. Highly, highly recommend.

First time kochi - It was my first kochi when I came to India from Japan. The Mujeeb San guide was very good. I came to kochi by myself, but I happened to be able to talk to him very friendlyly while I was walking around town, and he helped me with sightseeing. He was very knowledgeable about the city and even when he went to traditional places, he understood the culture well, which was a very meaningful time. If you come to kochi, please ask "Mujeeb-San" ^_^

Amazing place - I came back to Kochi after just 3 months and booked Sali's tuk tuk again for 2 days. I felt like I met an old friend. Sali is the best driver, always on time, smiling and so caring! I went to places I didn't know and he explained everything I saw along the way. Thanks, Sali!

Awesome Tuk Tuk Tour in Cochin with Ashok Kumar! - A most Excellent Day touring Cochin (Kochi), in the state of Kerala. We had a wonderful Tuk Tuk Driver/Guide, Ashok Kumar, who was born & raised here. He took us to the 19th-century Mattancherry Palace built by the Portuguese and given to the Raja of Kochi, the PAPAVINASHANATHIRTHA Hindu Temple, the Dhoby Khana which is the laundry run by the lowest caste, the Dutch Cemetery, the oldest Banyan Tree in Cochin, the first English Speaking School in India, the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, an Organic Spice Market, the fish nets, the beach, a fruit market, Brahmin Street & more! He took Randy for street food!

Best & Reliable Tuk Tuk Driver - You cannot do better than Joseph and his tuk tuk! He is kind, reliable, and knows the area. I found him because I waded through other assertive drivers looking for our business. Joseph stood by his Tuk Tuk until I found him. I rode with him for several days and he was terrific. He was always where he said he would be and always on time. I felt very safe with him.
