Distinct from other mountains in the region, Bjelasica is of volcanic origin, resulting in verdant summers and snowy winters. It boasts numerous streams and rivers, the most significant and stunning of which is the Biogradska River, flowing into the gem of the mountain, Biogradsko Lake.

Standing tall at 2,139 meters, its highest peak is named Crna glava (Black Head).

However, Bjelasica is renowned particularly for its enchanting lakes, of which there are six. The most appealing and well-visited is Biogradsko Lake, nestled in the heart of Biogradska Gora, one of the last three remnant hills in Europe.
