As you dine, your guide will share tales of old Calcutta.
  • Kolkata (Calcutta) - Explore Kolkata’s top local seafood restaurants where you’ll savor their famous prawns in chingri coconut cream sauce and a delectable curried fish mousse steamed in a banana leaf. Afterward, hop on one of the traditional rickshaws, unique to this part of India, for a short tour of the area on your way to the next food stop. Indulge in a prawn kabiraji at a historic kitchen established by a Scot in the 19th century.

Kolkata may seem bustling, but your guide will lead you through a tranquil district, highlighting temples and local life. As you wander the backstreets of old Kolkata, you’ll sample delicious snacks from the city’s famous onion bhajis to zesty gram salads made with herbs and pulses.

  • Kolkata (Calcutta) - The next destination is College Street, where stacks of school books are passed by university students returning from lectures. Visit a local cafe to try a renowned coconut sherbet drink, then enjoy Bengali sweets at a nearby shop. A walk into the real Kolkata - I had the pleasure to attend a food tour of Kolkata with Avik. I was late because of traffic but he was very keen to contact me and wait for me. During the tour, I felt always safe, and Avik was a great guide, ready to speak with big passion about his city and to reply to all my questions. We took a metro, bus, rickshaw, and the Kolkata old taxi. It was a great experience that I would recommend to anyone in town and want to understand something about Kolkata and West Bengali food. Best way to discover the city - We had an absolutely amazing time with our tour guide Avik. The food was delicious, but also all the story's and history behind were really interesting and you could feel the guide's passion for the city. We were also able to try a lot of different local modes of transportation and got the feeling to see the city through the eyes of a local. It's definitely one of the 'must do's' when you are visiting Kolkata. Thank you Avik!

Culinary delight - Avik immediately met me at out pick up point. He was friendly and sweet…I liked him the minute I met him. We started the food tour with mango lasses to refresh the pallet before enjoying the numerous tastings that left my pallet in delight! The portions were perfect and any left overs were given to the homeless, which I loved! Avik was been knowledgeable about the history of Calcutta and pointed out several spots worth seeing. He was fun, knowledgeable and always had my interest in heart. He even took me to a gold Smith where he helped me purchase beautiful ankle brackets. We hit several local places and sampled a variety of yummy Cuisine. I plan to take this tour again when I return next year with my family. It was a class act experience and my pallet was delighted by all the flavors of these local favorites. It may seem like a lot of food, but it’s all balance not to make you feel full so you had room for dessert too! I highly recommend this treasured culinary experience!!!! Francesca Dertinger

A treat for the eyes and the tummy - It was a wonderful experience getting into the non-touristy side of Calcutta and eating our way through old Cal. It was an evening tour and so well-thought out.

Absolutely loved the food, various modes of transport, Avik’s very fascinating information on the city and culture! - It was a perfectly designed tour which covered all kinds of food, balanced with a brief lesson on Kolkata’s history. We travelled by 3 major modes of public transport in the city and walked in the bylanes of Old Calcutta. The food was absolutely delicious and covered all kinds of ground and flavour palettes!

The guide was very good.... - The guide was very good. Knowledgeable & fully engaged. Some of food joints were simply outstanding and not known to people. He was also very good at pointing some truly historical streets and features.

Great way to explore Kolkata - Our guide had a wealth of knowledge not just about the food but about the city as well. A chefs tour gave us inaight into a part of kolkata that would have otherwise gone unexplored by us. When you sign up you not just get great food, but a cultural and historical tour as well

Good food but crazy guide - Good food, worth every penny. Hidden places were covered. The guide was rude, partial & very commanding.
