New Market - Part – 4. India’s Oldest Super Market
Step into this famous heritage market. Built in 1874 for the British residents in Kolkata who preferred not to shop with the native people, the New Market was opened to British inhabitants on January 1, 1874, where the elite Englishmen shopped at brand stores. It is also the oldest market in India.

Town Hall - Kolkata Town Hall, designed in Roman Doric style, was built in 1813 by architect and engineer Maj.-Gen. John Garstin with funds of 700,000 Rupees raised from a lottery to provide Europeans with a venue for social gatherings.

Writers’ Building - The Writers’ Building is the secretariat building of the State Government of West Bengal in Kolkata. The 150-meter long building spans the entire northern side of the iconic Lal Dighi pond in the downtown area of Dalhousie Square. Originally, it served as the main administrative office for writers (junior clerks) of the British East India Company. It was designed by Thomas Lyon in 1777.
