- Historic Harbour Clock - The starting point for the guided city tour with wine tasting is the Historic Harbour Clock. It is situated between the Council building and the Bodensee shipyards ticket office, right at the end of the Marktstätten underpass. - Constance Harbour - Just a short walk away is the Constance Harbour. The port’s location offers a panoramic view over Lake Constance and the nearby Alps. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of Prosecco or a light white wine while admiring the port of Imperia, the new landmark of Konstanz! An impressive statue of an equally impressive lady!
- Konzilgebaeude Konstanz - Located directly at the port is the historic Council building, where a pope was elected in 1417. While enjoying a typical Lake Constance wine, the guide and wine ambassador will explain why Constance became a focal point of world affairs at that time and what transpired during the four-year Council period. Discover how the port beauty Imperia in Constance captivated all men 600 years ago during the Council period. Let the stories and anecdotes of the guides transport you back to the not-so-dark Middle Ages!
- Stadtgarten - With views of Lake Constance and the opposite vineyards of Meersburg, savor a delicious Lake Constance wine and learn what makes winegrowing on Lake Constance unique.
- Fischmarkt - At the old Konstanz fish market stands the “Hohe Haus,” dating back to 1294 and supposedly built from top to bottom. Be surprised by the selected Lake Constance wine the guide will serve under the arcades of the historic fish market!
- Münster Unserer Lieben Frau - The historic center of Konstanz is the Münster. Let the guide show you the unique features of the former Episcopal Church and experience a piece of living history. Learn about the architecture and history of this venerable cathedral, where a pope was crowned in 1417. Over a delicious glass of Lake Constance wine, discover which wine was consumed during the Council period and how the wine industry on Lake Constance has evolved since then.
- Munsterplatz, Konstanz - The expansive Konstanz Minster Square is lined with baroque residences of the former Konstanz cathedral lords, many of whom owned vineyards on Lake Constance. Over another glass of Lake Constance wine, the guide will explain how the vineyards came to be managed by cooperatives and private winemakers today. Here on Münsterplatz, there is also a city relief that provides a good overview of today’s Constance.
- Old Town (Niederburg) - In Konstanz’s oldest district, the Niederburg, medieval stone houses, pawnshops of wealthy cathedral owners, and impressive administrative buildings from the Baroque period still stand today. Walking through the narrow old streets and with the guides’ anecdotes, you will see a vivid image of a well-preserved medieval city. Lastly, the remains of the Roman castle built by the Romans in the 4th century are here. Naturally, the guide will also serve an excellent wine from the Lake Constance region. After all, it was the Romans who introduced viticulture to Lake Constance.
- Rheintorturm - The Rhine Gate Tower, built around 1300, is located on the edge of the Niederburg. It is a relic of the old city walls and once connected the two banks of the Rhine with a wooden bridge. Directly below is also the km 0 of the German Rhine census. Here the Rhine is called “Seerhein,” as a few hundred meters later it widens again to form the Untersee, where the island Reichenau is located. An ideal place to taste a glass of wine from the island of Reichenau!
- Wessenbergstraße - Wessenbergstraße runs through the middle of Konstanz’s pedestrian zone. The name traces back to Ignaz Heinrich von Wessenberg, the last bishopric administrator. Here, you can taste the wine that Baron von Wessenberg once enjoyed!
- Sankt Stephan Kirche - St Stephen’s Church in Constance is as old as the cathedral in Constance, but it was and remains “only” a parish church, unlike the cathedral’s former Episcopal church function. In the shade of this beautiful parish church, enjoy a final glass of wine from Lake Constance, or perhaps another, more potent delicacy crafted by an expert distillery from the fruits thriving in Lake Constance’s mild climate.
