Highlights
  • Koper - Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Koper, Slovenia - hotel, cruise terminal, bus station, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
  • Postojna Cave - Postojna Cave, the queen of all caves, is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features, as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors (more than 36 million of them in over 200 years).
  • Predjama Castle - The Predjama Castle reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched up in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep down below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance into the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner - Erazem of Predjama. The legend about the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

A must : Koper Castle and caves - I had the fantastic chance to visit the castle and the caves first stop on our European cruise. WOW!! GREAT experience all around. Our guide was very fond of his city and country. He transmitted his passion and gave lots of information. Incredible castle and the Caves are an absolute must too. The caves are chilly so bring a jacket.

Tour review - We chose this tour directly with Koper Tours (taken Oct. 9th). The cruise line did not offer this castle tour at all. We were picked up on time at the port (van of 7) and Anton was our driver. Just be aware, there was only one person with a clipboard handling the hoards of people coming off the ship checking reservations. Please make sure you have your paper receipt with you to give to the agent. Anton spoke good English but it was hard hearing him from the back of the van. Suggestion to Koper Tours, get a microphone for you drivers so that everyone can hear. We went to the Castle first and the temperature is much cooler than the port so be prepared. We were in the Castle for one hour. They provided and audio device to listen while you tour the castle. It was gorgeous! Next stop was the Caves and it was a 20 minute ride. Be aware that the ticket from the Castle is the same ticket for the Cave and it has a reserved time. We got there about 30 minutes early so we got a drink and a danish. There are a few places right there for food and water closets. We got in very quickly and we were sitting on our train within 10 minutes. The Caves were absolutely stunning! You take the train ride for about 15mins and then you get off to walk through the Caves with an English speaking tour guide. The walk is about an hour and in the beginning it is all uphill. After that, you are walking downwards. Once we were out of the Cave and met up with our group, Anton gave us a taste of local red and white wine to warm us up. The ride back was quick and seamless and we have a few hours left in Koper before we sailed. I would definitely recommend this tour and it was a good day!

Best Experience! - So glad we took this tour instead of the long bus ride into Lubjelana that the cruise ship was offering. The scenery was great on the way and both the cave, which was super amazing, and the castle were not to be missed. There was even local beer on draft available!! 5 stars.

Cave and Castle - Cave and castle were beautiful. It's a bit of a drive too both and it felt like we were rushed at both sites. We still had enough time though to enjoy both sites. Caves were a bit chilly when on the train. Shorts and light jacket is more than enough if your from a cooler climate.

Predjama is a great site! - We specifically chose this tour because of the stop at Predjama Castle. Other tours included just a short stop for pictures, but this tour allowed you to spend 45 minutes for the tour. The tour was an audio self-guided tour, but was very informative. It was a very interesting castle and unlike anything we have seen before! The Postojna tour was interesting, but the tour groups are much too large (50+ people for one guide), and due to the nature of the cave the group got spread out and separated so that people at the back of the group were always having to walk very fast to keep up with the guide and couldn't hear the guide at all. We kept pace with the guide but it wasn't enjoyable to walk at the pace of the guide and we didn't get to enjoy much of the sights of the cave. I'd recommend a self-guided audio tour as it would be more informative and could be done at a more leisurely pace.

Just a driver, not a guide - This company must have changed since the restart after covid as we did not have the same experience others have reported. I arranged for two vans as we had 10 pax in our group for a shore excursion from Koper. Each van had a driver/guide. The van I was in was driven by the owner of the company, Dan. He gave us very little information about what we were seeing, history, culture, etc. Many times he was rude. The other driver was an American student who was very nice, but gave even less information I was told. Where are the wonderful guides that others have reviewed in tours pre-covid? I also booked a tour with their sister company Cro Trips. I set up 7 private excursions for this cruise and these were the worst. This company is also known as Cro Trips and Trieste Trips,
