Highlights
  • Nisiros - Depart from the port of Kardamena, sail past Giali Island, and reach Nisyros after an hour-long cruise. Upon arrival, a bus will take you to the volcano crater.

  • Nisyros Volcano - Nisyros hosts Greece’s youngest volcano, which remains active like those at Methana, Milos Island, and Santorini Island. The island is largely mountainous, volcanic, and highly fertile, featuring volcanic rock formations from past eruptions. These rocks, including basalt, have been used in various structures such as the Palaiokastro and the bell tower of the Church of Agios Ioannis Theologos near Nikia. The island’s landscape is shaped by lava, covered with pyroclastic deposits and volcanic mud. Two significant eruptions are believed to have occurred around 25,000 years ago. The largest crater, Polivotis, measures 260m in diameter and 30m in depth. There are five younger craters, with the largest being Stefanos, which is 30m in diameter and 30m deep. The surrounding valley stretches 2,400m in length and 950m in width.

  • Mandraki - Upon returning to the port of Nisyros, you can explore the town of Mandraki. Stroll through the narrow streets lined with blue and white houses, enjoy lunch (not included), shop, or visit the renowned Panagia Spiliani monastery before boarding the boat at 4:00pm for your return to Kos.

A great day out! - This day tour was so much fun! Nisyros is a stunning island and the Stefano Crater was absolutely amazing to stand in and see. Our tour guide Maria was super knowledgeable about the volcano and the islands history and having three hours to explore the town before the ferry back to Kos was brilliant.

Unique experience - Our German guide was mega nice and entertaining. He led us through the tour and we learned a lot of new things. You will be picked up from the hotel on time and also have enough time to explore the area on your own. You noticed that the crew and the guide have a lot of fun with their job!

Great day out - Great day out. Not for flip flops though!! It’s very weird but in a good way standing on a crater that’s still steaming in places. Very interesting and pretty village

Worth it! - Great experience and the crater is incredible when you really reflect on what you're seeing. The capital of Nisyros is quite picturesque and worth walking around. Boat trip there and back easy enough. Guide was incomprehensible in English.

A unique experience - Very enjoyable trip to Nisyros, seeing the town and the volcano. It’s nice to have some time to explore the town on your own and get some food as well as seeing the volcano. The volcano was very cool to see. Definitely a unique experience.

Nice places, bad trip - The island is beautiful and the vulcano is interesting. Apart form that no other experinece is part of the trip. The local guides didn't add anything to the experience, just basic facts. They also guided us inside a restoraunt they recommended as part of the tour, which is uncomfortable if you don't wish to eat there. Lots of free time in Mandraki. Visiting the monastery was also not part of the trip, but you could go during your free time. Return bus had no air conditioning and was extremely hot.

Beautiful Nisyros, not a small group - Nisyros is very beautiful and I definitely recommend a day trip there. The tour guide was very friendly. However, this activity advertised a trip in a small group where we would get attention from the guide, and that was not at all the case. There were 100 people in tour. Although we had the time to explore the main town and the volcano on our own, we did not get detailed explanations nor stories about the places we visited, only some comments on the speaker of the bus, which was hard to understand. Also the bus to the volcano had no air condition, and it was quite hotel
