Ama Dablam, standing at 6,812m., derives its name, which translates to ‘Mother’s necklace’, from its unique structure. The long ridges on either side are reminiscent of a mother’s (Ama) protective arms around her child, whereas the hanging glacier is likened to the Dablam, a traditional double-pendant adorned with images of gods and worn by Sherpa women. On the other hand, Island Peak, alternately known as Imja Tse Himal due to its towering presence over the serene Imja Tse valley, got its name from its island-like appearance according to the early explorers and mountaineers.
