Highlights
  • Toyosu Market - Toyosu Market (豊洲市場, Toyosu Shijō) opened on October 11, 2018 on the man-made island of Toyosu in the Bay of Tokyo. It took over the wholesale business from the aging Tsukiji Market and provides tourists with an opportunity to observe the market action and to dine at restaurants across its large, modern premises.

The huge wholesale market consists of three main buildings: two buildings for seafood and one for fruits and vegetables. All buildings are connected with each other and Shijo-mae Station via walkways, and tourists can enter them along dedicated routes and view the action from observation windows that look onto the auction and wholesale halls for tuna, other seafood and produce.

Foodie delight experience! - We really enjoyed touring and learning more about the Tsukiji market. Our guide Maki pointed out diff types of foods, how they were used/prepared - and showed us what would be fun to sample! She also knew which lines were short & which vendors were known for their product. We also went over to Asakusa, and in addition to showing us around there, she found us a wonderful cafe for us to enjoy a shaved ice, which we’d wanted to try in Japan! Overall a great, foodie approved tour in Tokyo!

Highly recommend! Our guide Isao took us to some amazing places and we tried some amazing food! This is a must do! - We really enjoyed the tour and our guide Isao! The tour of the Tsukiji Market was very interesting and almost overwhelming with the food choices. That’s where Isao really demonstrated his expertise as a guide. All of the food that we tried was excellent as we followed Isao’s recommendations. I would not have tried some of the different foods had he not recommended them. Akihabara is a must do for anime, electronics , and video games. All along the way Isao was very attentive and provided excellent commentary and explanations of the areas we visited.

Our guide was very... - Our guide was very knowledgeable and kind, he was not the problem. The start time (suggested by the tour company) was about 4 hours too late, the auction was long over and all the stores were closed, even the retailers only had a handful of booths still open. It was an expensive disappointment. We would gladly have got up for a 4:30 or 5am start, which we were expecting, but the tour start was set at 8:00. We were surprised but went alo g with it as the market had moved to a new location, so maybe the auction was scheduled for later.
