- Kotor Old Town - Kotor Old Town is the starting point of our hiking tour and will remain visible throughout the journey. Guests will enjoy various perspectives of it while learning about the rich history of Kotor and the Bay of Kotor.
- Kotor Fortress - Our hike to the San Giovanni fortress begins outside the walls on the Old Cetinje Caravan Road, also known as the “Cattarro Ladder.” We’ll visit the only family residing in the otherwise deserted rock village of Špiljari, where we’ll take a break to sample homemade smoked ham and delicious cheese. We then ascend to higher elevations, offering views of every house, palace, and church in the city, as well as a vast expanse of the Bay of Kotor and the surrounding mountains.
- Spiljari - Enjoy a break with traditional Montenegrin homemade snacks at the restaurant run by the sole remaining family in the village.
- Castle Of San Giovanni - We will enter the castle at its highest point and descend to the Old Town of Kotor via 1,350 steps built several centuries ago!

Dramatic and magnificent views of Kotor Old Town and the Bay are the major rewards of this Kotor hiking tour and should find a place on your things to do in Kotor list and trust us, it’s well worth of the physical effort involved.
To reach the San Giovanni fortress, we begin our hike outside the walls on the Old Cetinje Caravan Road (aka “Cattarro Ladder”). We’ll meet the only family living in the otherwise abandoned rock village Špiljari, where we’ll rest and sample homemade smoked ham and delicious cheese. Afterwards, we begin our ascent to the upper elevations - from where you’ll be ale to see every house, palace and church in the city — along with a large expanse of the Bay of Kotor and surrounding mountains.
Now for the easy part comes – descending the 1,350 stairs inside the fortress
